Yes, you're right I was spacing. Still I don't mind all the natural grain. I welcome a new transfer, that's great news. Not about to say though that the Blue Undergound BD isn't fine as it is though

Mister B Gone, what you see on BU BD is not natural film grain but scanner noise. Sorry to say but both releases of COTLD look like shit, absolutely terrible.

It's scanner noise. There was a very helpful article on landofwhimsy (I think?) at some point explaining how to tell the difference. Probably the most obvious giveaway is that it looks the same all over the screen and even appears over whites (which should have no grain if it's truly natural).

Here's the article I was thinking of, sadly ALL the images are now broken links.

welp, then I can't wait to buy a new version of Gates of Hell aka City of the Living Dead. It's my 3rd favorite Fulci film.

Wish Arrow were doing COTLD. This is the kind of film that needs a booklet, professional documentaries and premium packaging.

Arrow's release of City has one of the most ridiculously extensive sets of bonus materials I've ever seen. I don't care much for the movie (love Zombie and The Beyond) but the extras alone were worth the price.

We're getting a little off topic here folks, I know. But I just hope Code Red can port over at least the BU extras while adding some new stuff (if they can). Plus the 7.1 sound remix with the original Mono (we all know for sure the latter will be there). This also goes for Arrow's upcoming Bird release (but I'll be happy with whatever they give us).

Those 7.1 remixes on the old BU discs are terrible and a waste of a lot of space.

Never understood why people like multi-channel remixes on these older titles.

I only like multi-channel remixes if they...oh I don't know, actually sound like multi-channel remixes and not a lazy dissection of a mono or stereo mix.

I was actually checking out the DTS 5.1 mix of Jason Goes to Hell last night and surprisingly, its a legitimate remix where a lot of the elements are given their own channel as opposed to a shoddy multi-channel distribution of the stereo/mono mix.

Wait, the US version has a $49.99 MSRP, while the UK version is £29.99 (about $37)? I know no one pays MSRP, but that is nuts.

Arrow releases have been considerably more expensive since they launched the US branch, but yeah, this is the most egregious yet as far as MSRP is concerned. I'm going to wait for a price drop before getting it.

I can understand why one would rather have a mono track if that's what the movie's original audiotrack was when it was released, just for purity reasons alone.

However, and if done right, I personally much rather prefer a 2 channel or multichannel remixed track than the original mono. It doesn't have to be an allout multi directional, demo worthy audiofest (and it mostly isn't with these older movies) but I enjoy the sound separation, the subtle ambience and the more spacious soundstage.

AlexIlDottore stated that he didn't like those 7.1 remixes on BU discs and while I agree 7.1 is a bit too much, I actually find their Zombi and City Of The Living Dead audio remixes pretty good. Besides that they sound better overal than the original mono ones, you can hear subtle ambience sounds coming from the rear channels which I really like. For example, in City Of The Living Dead during the scene where Bob wonders in front of a building, you can hear the sound of the wind blowing coming from the rear speakers.

I was watching BU's House By The Cemetery a couple of weeks ago and I love the stereo separation on that remixed 2.0 track! Can't imagine watching that movie with mono sound.

Yeah sometimes it's a surprise to hear what they can achieve with an audiomix in older movies. I've always liked the surround effect of that scene in Evil Dead 2, when noises are coming from all directions just before the ghost of Annie's dad appears.

Because they can add a new fun way to enhance a movie that you may have already seen many, many times. It doesn't mean you have listen to it every time. It just means you have a choice. The original track should always be included.

If this Arrow US release is based off framing guidelines used for the Arrow UK disc, might be best to hold onto BU disc until this can be further explored. BU framing looks much better in the caps than Arrow UK:

Why would they port over their heavily criticised old original UK release when they're currently working on a brand new in-house 4K restoration? (Which is 100% going to be 2.35:1)

You can blame the film's DoP for that framing mishap btw, you know the guy who now prefers the 2:1 "Univisium" ratio and is signing off on heavily cropped masters of his classic works.

That's the old UK disc with Storaro-Vision (Storaro's preferred 2.00:1 AR). The new release is fixing that.
