If you haven't blown your budget for the month on the Criterion flash sale and the Kino sale and the various Halloween sales, these box sets are on sale on Hal Hartley's website for $68 each. It's not clear how long the sale lasts. I think I might finally pull the trigger on these at that price.

I hope to take a look at the other two films over the weekend but I would say it is money well spent. |

Trust & The Unbelievable Truth appear to be sourced from the same transfers with the same aspect ratios, just slightly different encodes. Both of those discs in the Long Island Trilogy are BD-25 single-layer, just like the Olive Blu-ray releases were. The differences between the audio tracks are PCM 2.0 (16-bit), whereas they are DTS-HD Master Audio 1.0 (16-bit) on the Olive releases. So it's really Uncompressed vs. Lossless, and I doubt there is any notable difference between them. The Olive Blu-rays lacked any subtitles at all, but the Long Island Trilogy discs all have optional English/French/German/Japanese/Spanish set-up options on the discs. As far as Bonus Features, the Long Island Trilogy discs have shortened versions of the "Making Of" Featurettes compared to those included on the Olive discs. Both are about 9-10 minutes shorter. Why the original longer versions (both were just under 20 minutes each) were not used I have no clue... The "Opera No. 1" short film is absent from the The Unbelievable Truth disc in the Trilogy set, but that is available in the short films Blu-ray set he also released. The one included on the old Olive disc was from a video source anyway, so inferior in quality. So at least as far as Trust and The Unbelievable Truth, the A/V quality is similar to the US Olive Blu-ray releases, but adds the choice of optional subtitles. |

^^^ As an addendum to my above post, I can clarify why the "featurettes" between the Olive releases and the Long Island Trilogy set are of different lengths.
The ones on the Olive releases are older Featurettes. The shorter Featurettes on the discs in the box set are actually newly edited pieces with a 2018 copyright at the very end, only using some of the same material from those older Featurettes peppered with newly filmed comments with Hal Hartley, etc. So that was why it was easy to confuse them between the releases. In summary, the old Featurettes on the Olive releases are not included on the discs in the box set, but you do get some snippets from them edited into the new Featurettes on the box set. I wouldn't necessarily say it is essential to own the old Olive releases just for those older Featurettes alone, since the "meat" of them are edited into the newer Featurettes in the Long Island Trilogy set. But you do get more of Adrienne Shelly with the ones on the Olive discs. |

Since before 2019. I started getting his emails then and the earliest one I have shows the Long Island Trilogy and says its part of a sale.

I have Artificial Eye blus of The Unbelievable Truth and Simple Men. And the Olive blu of Trust. Is it worth me getting the Long Island Trilogy? Any real difference?
I'm puzzled why Hartley has gone this route. I mean $100 plus for a set that would normally be around $40-50. And they're BD25s and not BD50s. Can't seem to find any reviews, positive or negative, about this boxset. |

Anyone have the Flirt/Meanwhile box set? It’s impossible to find full specs for these sets and I was wondering if any of the films include trailers?

Honestly, I will buy every release that Hal Hartley makes. I have every Blu-ray set he Kickstarted and that’s now almost all his work. It’s remarkable, every project. If he upgrades to 4K, I’ll do it just to support his work as an artist. Brilliant stuff, I hope more people see his work.

Hal is holding a 20% off sale on his film sets that you can order direct from his website through May 12. Use code HH20. They are pretty pricey, but are the only in-print versions of his amazing films!

Thanks! Been hoping to get "Surviving Desire" for a few years now but I kept missing the brief windows of his sales, this code takes the edge off of the price a little bit. Just finished my Hartley collection until somebody upgrades "No Such Thing".

Not sure of the best place to post this but I received the blu-ray of Hartley’s latest, ‘Where To Land’, today but it’s not presently in the database here.
This is the UPC if anyone wants to build an entry if that’s even possible (for this Possible Films release): 195269367299 |
