So, is it substantially worth the upgrade?
Lossy audio. Shot on 16mm. Perhaps the DVD set will do. To me, I'd need a 50% improvement at the least before purchase. |

My set arrived today. I'm from Germany so I knew already knew from other Mill Creek imports that there was little chance that the outer Box and the cheap cardboard Mill Creek is using for it would survive the journey unscathed and I was right (see pictures). Fortunately I don't care about that too much, I'm just happy to finally own the show on Blu-Ray. (I don't do DVDs anymore and you can't buy HD-Streaming versions of this show in Germany for some reason.)
A few things about this release: I know this has been an issue with many Mill Creek titles before, but this set actually does contain subtitles, if they shoud be requiered. The Blu-Ray.com-Review was not a typo. These are MPEG 2-encodings. Due to the 16mm photography there is a lot of grain. But that's how the show was shot, so I don't mind at all. I only spot checked a few episodes, so I don't know yet if the MPEG2-encoding and the fact that there are only 13 discs have affected the quality to much. Here are a few pictures: [Show spoiler]

Did it include digital copies? We live not too far from Austin and have a special attachment to this show. We already have the DVD's

So has anyone been able to verify if the music is the original, or at least the same as the Netflix version (which is supposed to be close to original) as one of the reviews states? The music is such a key part of this series, really don't want to waste my money if it's been tarnished. I've recently watched it on Netflix and if it really is the same as that version, it would be close enough to warrant a purchase, in my opinion.

This is, as far as I know, the first Mill Creek TV set to include subtitles. |

Ok something else besides the subtitles that to my knowledge is a first on a Mill Creek release:
Just now I accidentally put a disc of the set in my Region B only Player and wouldn't you know... It worked! I tried all of the other discs as well and can confirm that this set is definitely region free! Quote:
I have a bit of a different opinion on this issue. Sure music is a part of the show but for me personally, different music would not be a dealbreaker on a release like this. The fact is, the show was never a big ratings hit. That it gets a Blu Ray release at all after all this years is a small miracle itself and I'm really greatful that Mill Creek found a way to put it out there at all. I'm region-free but this will definitely make it easier to show friends and family who aren't. ![]() |
