It may look a little 'waxy', but the increase in sharpness and detail is amazing. I'll still be picking it up when it's released.

Not too happy with the digital changes, but i'll have to live with it.

Like where they changed the stunt doubles head back to Arnolds in the 2017 remaster.
http://www.screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/124678

They also cleaned up and removed many of the movie mistakes that were left in the previous releases.

Comparisons are starting to show up as well.
Lionsgate: US 2015 blu-ray vs German 2017 remastered blu-ray

The increase in detail and sharpnes on the new 2017 remaster does look good.

Thank you for that, I was going to pick up the 4k tonight but I am not so sure now until more people give their views.

Has any cleanup been done before this release?

I remember on the laserdisc there were wires visible when the bike drops down and when Arnie falls off the tanker. In the 2015 I just see weirdness above the bike now and no wires.

Apparently they didn't do anything to the extended scenes so those will now stick out like dog balls.

And since the extended cut is my favourite go to version of the film, I will pass on this release and stick with my previous DVD/Blu-ray editions.

The new remstered 2017 blu-ray edition has 3 version of the film

* Theatrical Version 2:17:07
* Special Edition Version 02:33:13
* Extended Special Extended Version 02:35:55

Before playing the longer Special or Extended versions it displays:

Quote:
Please note that to bring you this version of the film we had to use seamless branching. Accordingly you may notice variations in the picture, colour and sound quality in comparison to the theatrical version.
Obviously no remastering was done for the additional scenes in these versions of the film.

The German, French, UK/AU/NZ blu-ray is region B locked. It starts up with a language/country selection menu offering:

* German
* French
* United Kingdom/Australia/New Zealand

The very reason I'll pass on this edition. The extra scenes will be of a noticeably different quality and will affect my viewing pleasure.

I've only seen reviews of the 4K disc.. are we assuming (or has it been confirmed) the BD disc included in the UHD set is the new master, with seamless branching, or is it just the remastered Theatrical cut.... or, is it just the Skynet Edition disc repackaged?

The original BD is definitely never leaving my collection, haha. I may replace the Skynet edition with this one if it's cheap enough, mostly for the new extras (the ones on Skynet were incredibly underwhelming, especially compared to the Ultimate Edition DVD).

I haven't yet upgraded this movie from DVD to Blu-ray so not withstanding this new release what is the absolute BEST version in terms of quality should I get of the first 2 movies?

the first one here and the uk is remastered and looks great except for it being a bit too teal. it is missing the original audio which kind of sucks. in terms of the second one some people like the new remaster but it's too dnred and altered so id say go for the 2015 region locked us one which has two of the cuts without dnr or the original aussie/uk release which is just the extended cut barebones with no dnr

The US one doesn't have DTS:X, it's DTS-HD 5.1 just like everywhere else, even on the UHD. Plus there isn't even a 3D release scheduled for the US.

Just watched this in 3D and while the #d wasn't too bad, Geoff was right, it's as smoove as a freshly waxed 'nina. Not a speck of grain in sight, and edge enhancement up the wazoo...
