I got tickets for Saturday for JW2. The theater I go to (Marcus) has installed a laser projector in it's largest theater (Ultra Screen) and it's the only 3D movie they have shown in that theater in over a 2 years. I'm looking forward to seeing what a difference the laser will make with 3D. Anyone else seen a movie projected by laser light?

I saw the Incredibles 2 yesterday and the picture was too dark. I complained but nothing happened. I hate seeing movies that are projected darker than they should be. People should complain more about that instead of just sitting there and watching it.

you've not been to Navy Pier or River East 21's Dolby Cinema theater?

The boosted lumiance is perfect and colors have a greater saturation and color range.

I saw Fallen Kingdom a second time, for which I blame no one but myself. Actually the reason was I wanted to check out the 4DX experience. We have a new screen nearby and I wanted to see what it was all about.

Assessing 4DX: in terms of effort, I have to hand it to them. There is little else that could be done to 'enhance' the cinema experience. Tilting seats with all kinds of jolting and vibrating effects, a full indoor weather system, smells, bubbles, smoke, lightning. I was somewhat concerned about the rain and spray, but I needn't have been. I thought the water might obscure the 3D glasses, I was afraid I might get cold or catch a cold. I needn't have been. You don't get drenched, the climate control was perfect , and I didn't notice so much as a droplet on my glasses.

When you start to get into it, the added effects were a lot of fun. Especially during some of the action sequences, like the eruption stampede. The system is going full tilt and you're not overly aware of any individual effect and you don't know what's coming next. At one point I thought someone behind me kicked the back of my seat. As the film wore on, it became apparent that this was yet another effect, and the kicks were coming from different parts of the chair. I wasn't crazy about this. During a fistfight in the movie it lowkey felt like I was being beaten up! It's a good thing I don't suffer with chronic back pain. The storm effects were very well done. The breeze and rain effects were gentle enough that you don't feel it was messing you up, but just enough that you feel that much more 'there'. At one point I noticed what I thought was a frame breaking effect in the 3D. Actually it was puffs of smoke which shot up either side to the front of the screen.

During the quieter parts of the film, the effects could be distracting. This is where it felt artificial and took you out of the movie. Where they were just doing one effect at a time it seemed that much more forced. I think the 'lightning' function had this effect as well. The idea of a flash of sheet lightning seems good, but the reality is it lights up the whole theater that you'd begun to forget you were sitting in. Takes you out of the movie.

I only experienced the 'smell' feature during a short promo movie before the feature. To my knowledge, neither that nor the bubble feature was used in the presentation.

...

In the context of this themepark-like showmanship, I couldn't help but feel 3-D could have been contributing more to the thrillride. The new dinosaur in this is a fictional hybrid movie monster that reaches its clawed hands suspensefully out towards human prey. You see this in the trailer. There was a missed opportunity here to have the claws slowly reaching out of the screen.

I think I may have been slightly generous in my initial assessment of the 3D. Some of the shots that impressed me first time around didn't seem so special. A fairly large portion of the movie is either set at night or indoors or both. It is visually dark, but I felt the imagery was still distinct and things were clear enough. The original Jurassic World probably had more of a wow factor. I did notice a few more instances where the 3D had satisfying depth and volume, but they tended to cut away all too soon. The kind of frustration I had with this could be illustrated with the example of a scene where a velociraptor is running towards the camera, and it seems about a split-second away from where it might run through the screen, but that's instead the point where they rotate the camera around to watch it run into the distance. Another scene with effective 3D showed a menagerie of Jurassic World dinosaurs in very close proximity to each other. But you only get a glimpse.

The film is in critical decline at the moment, and there's some dispute as to whether this is down to the quality of the movie, or the idea that it confounds expectations. In some ways it was a new low for the franchise. With that said, there's an early scene where the T.rex stalks a victim, which is as dramatic and well crafted as anything in the series.

Just my .02, the 3D in this was mild to medium at best. Saw laser Imax in Lincoln Square and wasn't impressed with the 3D. Didn't help that I absolutely hated the film as well.

Thanks for the 3D details NIN.

The most noticable 3D effects were things like guns pointing out of the screen. I recall a few bits and pieces here and there, such as an allosaurus knocking one of those hamsterballs containing Bryce Dallas Howard, who seemed momentarily to fall towards the screen. What disappoints me is that they don't use the 3D so much for the dinosaurs themselves. BBC did a 3D dinosaur show a few years back that had a spinosaurus snout come right out of the screen. Nothing like that here. The 3D conversion people did a decent job with what they had to work with. There are the usual conversion issues to be found in the typical problem areas, but I wouldn't fault the team particularly. The results felt quite natural, and strong at times. The 3D doesn't suffer from sparse cinematography; there is enough to work with here.

The film itself, well, it's very reminiscent of The Lost World:Jurassic Park. I'd say The Lost World, on Jurassic World steroids. At least for the first part of the movie. From there on the movie takes a somewhat unexpected turn.
[Show spoiler]Ridiculous action comedy scenes give way to a gothic mansion melodrama with some sinister villains and a spooky child
. I'm still processing it. It's definitely one of the weaker entries.
[Show spoiler]Jeff Goldblum's scenes are just a few clips of him giving testimony, he is not involved in the story.
For years I thought The Lost World was horribly flawed, but compared to Fallen Kingdom, I'm inclined to believe the set pieces were stronger and more memorable. If the 1978 Superman movie was about 'you will believe a man can fly', Jurassic Park was about 'you will believe you are seeing real dinosaurs'. Hollywood doesn't seem to be playing that game anymore. Everything about Fallen Kingdom felt terribly unconvincing.

It is still fun, up to a point. You could tell they used more full scale animatronics this time around, and some of the sets were impressive. Perhaps it will improve on second viewing.

One last thing: there is a post credits sequence at the very, very end, brief but with good 3D. Keep your glasses handy if you stick around.
Very helpful 3D review, thanks Interdimensional.

The 3D is the most time medium. I think it it is similar to Jurassic World 1.
I register a few mild pop-outs effects. The deep in many shots in the first part of the movie are really good. In the secons part the deepness is ok, but not so good like the first part. So...its a good 3D presentation, but by far not the best.
I´m looking forward for the 3D Blu-Ray (with huge black bars).
Nice review, thanks!

I enjoyed the mostly medium 3D in Jurassic World 1 3D, and having seen the 3D trailers a few times in theaters, there's potential this can be a good conversion based on that and the reviews here so far. Thanks.

Going to check out Jurassic World 2 3D this weekend.

I might be alone in this, but I didn't like the previous movie either.

I'll give it one more watch, before the new one hits home video.

Unless Fallen Kingdom comes out in 3D, there's really no point for me.

My assessment: JP1...JP3...JP2........JP4 (my least favorite by far).

Because its not a MCU or Disney movie. And a Disney movie just came out can’t have it go down that much. So critics trash this to help Disney. The reviewer here though gave it 8-10
JW2 is jus as good as JW1. 3D is pretty much on par with JW1 too imo.

Nice! Just pre-ordered at Best Buy. Was hoping for a 4K + 3D combo, but I don't see one listed anywhere. Just glad we're getting the 3D disc in the US.

Went ahead and locked in my pre-order at Best Buy for $26 and change...

Thanks everyone for the heads up and the links.

Glad they are still releasing official US 3D of these tent pole movies.

Just read the 3D review from cinemablend.com and i'm even more excited about this release.

I see we're getting it in Canada as well, which means I'll be able to walk into my local Walmart and buy it on release day as opposed to waiting for a shipping notice. UK pre-ordered cancelled. This is great news

Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom.

For contrast: 3D Preview:
Ant-Man and the Wasp 3D trailer has high medium to strong 3D, very striking, obvious 3D that looks awesome and is fun to watch.

Skyscraper 3D trailer: low medium to medium 3D. Unimpressed with the 3D.

Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom 3D Review:
Cinemark 3D theater, great projection/contrast, middle row, center seat.
3D Layering: 6/10. Mostly low medium 3D layers, at times, mild 3D and once in awhile, medium layered 3D, but hardly ever above that. No strong 3D in my view.
3D Pop Outs: 1/10. Hardly any pop outs in this film. One of a dino bite was about high medium 3D at best. Nothing special.
3D Framing: 6/10. So many character shots were cropped off, preventing a full 3D character to appear within frame from the top of their head.
3D Comparison: Jurassic Park 1 3D and Jurassic World 3D wipe the floor with this milder 3D conversion. Disappointing.
Favorite 3D Shot: Near the end of the film, the lead female is looking through the glass in the
[Show spoiler]control room at the dinos below
. That was a nice, high medium 3D shot, well framed and looked good. But so rare in this film.
3D Summary: 6/10. A mild to low medium conversion that pales in comparison to Jurassic World 1's 3D. Oh well... It's a better, more consistent conversion than Solo's mostly mild 3D, but not by very much. Compare this to the first one at home and you'll see the difference if you look carefully.

The movie was mildly interesting but so much of it focuses on the politics and
[Show spoiler]auctioning of what the criminals want to do with the dinosaurs, that it becomes slow and dull at times to the point I started to feel like dozing off but didn't. Then the latter half was more like a horror monster in the house movie, than anything epic like Jurassic Park movies should be.
Jurassic World I enjoyed, this film, it was okay; good action and effects, and the dinos look good as usual, but just didn't care about the character's situation too much. If you're a fan of the films, you might want to see it just for the heck of it, but go in with low expectations and you might like it.
