Shovel Knight would be cool. Though Yacht Club released those themselves on all the other consoles so I imagine they'd do the same here, no need to get a limited run company to do it, especially since it's such a popular title on the console. I imagine we might get a physical announcement to coincide with the new amiibo in the near future

Yeah I've been wondering about that Amiibo 3-pack. Seems like ages ago I pre-ordered it.

Gotta give them points for originality on their presentation.

Pretty sure Golf Story is an rpg with golf bits tacked on, so completely different games.

I was angry actually when I found out about that earlier today. Being a LRG means no retail discounts. Playtonic said that "digital would come first followed by a physical" but then they decided to hand it over to LRG instead of doing it themselves like they did for the PS4 and Xbox One; both of which are cheaper.

To be fair, considering the fact that they did do PS4/Xbox themselves, it seems like they wouldn't have handed the rights to LRG if they could've just afforded to do it themselves. Likely a physical version wouldn't exist at all otherwise

Mario Golf on the Gameboy was an RPG.
I’m asking how it compares to that.

It’s just them being lazy and cheap.

No. It costs much more to put a game out on Switch than it does the disc based systems. That's a huge risk for a small developer considering it's already been released on several platforms already so the pool of potential buyers is diluted on Switch.

It’s only a "huge risk" if they overproduce. It’s not that hard to say to a retailer "I’ll let you sell this game if you share the number of pre-orders with me" then only produce enough to cover the pre-orders. And if you don’t produce enough, no big deal because retailers will just put up one of those "temporarily out if stock" messages. Just announce it’s an online exclusive, so you don’t have to ship to individual stores, just central retailer warehouses. So ONE Best Buy location, ONE Target location, etc. rather than dozens. Or they could make it Amazon exclusive, which would cut costs even more, then they only have to ship to a single location.

The way you’re talking, you’re forgetting it’s 2018, not 1918.

That's not how the supply chain works. They have to have a minimum order amount if they produce the normal way through Nintendo which is probably way more than they expect to sell. With LRG they make 1-3,000, sell out and call it a day.

Your idea is a fantasy. The way I'm talking is the real world.

It also wasn't a particularly well-received game, so that probably limits the amount they think they'd sell too in addition to it being out on other platforms for so long already (I personally contributed to the Kickstarter and got a PS4 physical copy and did not especially enjoy it lol)

Tell that to Warner Bros., their "Warner Archive" line is made-on-demand. They don’t overproduce, they make what is ordered.

You’re just still living in the past.

Warner has nothing to do with Switch game manufacturing.

I can already predict your response so I'll save you some time.

They're not doing it for Yooka Laylee or any other Switch game ever so it doesn't matter because they don't do on demand.

To which you'll just say

So yes, Playtonic is just a bunch of lazy *******s because you'll have a hard time completing your coveted Switch collection.

^ I wasn’t going to say any of that, just giving an example of a company doing what you said is impossible.

LRG makes as many games as there are pre-orders for. All I’m saying is Playtonic could do the same if they wanted. The fact of the matter is there is nothing I can say that will get you to listen to reason, so I’m done trying. You just will never get it.

If they made it an online exclusive, they’d could let retailers sell it with minimum risk. There is no reason for Playtonic to go with LRG, other than LRG probably paid Playtonic for the exclusive right to do so. It’s all about greed.

Had I known that they were releasing a Switch version, I would've waited for that one instead of ordering the PS4 release.

This is false. 99% of their releases have a very limited number (hence the name) that's pre-determined and sold on two time slots during one day. It's only been recently that a few of their releases have gotten a larger genuine pre-order (take as many orders as needed over a couple of days) with them.
