Pieter V what basis of fact do you have to prove Three Billboards, a fox title is not region locked?

The reviewer either

a.) Was purposefully trying to sound pretentious as a joke.

b.) Was using a thesaurus to try and make themself sound smarter.

Or c.) Really talks that way and probably holds very few conversations with other human beings.

I probably wouldn't rush to call it a "neo-noir" either, but a case could be made.

By that definition the Naked Gun movies are neo-noirs too

Hey, if you say so. I think that's a reach, but I'd be happy to listen to any elaboration.

"Neo-noir" doesn't have the rigid requirements that the term "film noir" does. At least not when I went to school. By its very nature it's some kind of mutation of the original conception. This means that filmmakers have the prerogative to colour outside of the lines a bit.

Silver and Ursini's guide to the genre (The Movie Never Ends) covers just about every cop and/or crime film since the golden days, including a few I wouldn't have considered noir, neo or otherwise, but I'd probably defer to them on the issue.

This is a film that features finely drawn flawed characters, police corruption, vigilantism, and deals with the cycle of violence with sharp humour and intelligence. The theme writ large seems to be, "The past will not let go." On paper, that sounds like a slam dunk to me.

The only strike against it might be the very McDonagh-ness of the whole project, which means that
[Show spoiler]characters don't always face the consequences of their actions in an appropriately timely or harsh fashion, usually in the service of sentimental or cutesy resolutions or character beats. I still liked it, mostly because the performances carry the day.

Rewatched this last night and still think Abbie Cornish was badly miscast for Harrelson's wife.

Definitely a weak link of the film, but to be fair to Cornish, the role itself was subpar. The role could of been removed entirely and it wouldn't have changed much. Might have made the film darker.

She was fine with what they gave her. But her age and Australian accent was pretty distracting in my opinion.

Just got my copy from Amazon. The slipcover is slightly ruffled at the bottom, but nothing serious. I hope this lives up to the hype.

I tend to enjoy movies like No Country for Old Men, There Will Be Blood,
The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, and Hell or High Water. This movie looks like it fits in.

I wouldn’t say it’s like any of those movies at all.

McDonagh says in the special features that he likes to work with the same people repeatedly. So a bunch of Seven Psychopaths actors were brought onto this movie, and she's one of em. I thought she was OK but yeah, the accent was out-of-place.

Killer Joe is another one.

My profile says that Dark Humor, Crime Drama and Film noir are strongly over represented. I'm sure this will work for me.

It's mainly a character-driven movie, if you're really into that sort of thing.

Got around to watching it this weekend. Fantastic movie. Lots of twist and turns and felt like one of those movies that is really in a class that few share. I put it up there with No Country and There Will Be Blood.

The movie is full of unsavory but realistic people in interesting situations. It's almost like Unforgiven where everyone is "bad' but you can't help not to be intrigued.

After watching the movie, I was annoyed to see some of the backlash towards one of the characters....

[Show spoiler]I saw numerous complaints that Sam Rockwell's character, a racist and over all bad person, had a redemption story. Therefore, the movie is bad and racist. This is just ridiculous and typical SJW crap.

Rockwell wasn't redeemed. He had a character arc. He was still going to kill someone in the end but he re-directed his hate. He had a change of heart and maybe 20 years from now, he'll be a better person but redeemed he was not

If anyone is looking to get rid of their UV copy, I'm in the market for one.

Willing to pay American dollars if necessary.

Though I have a pet rooster available for trade.

...his name is Chong Li.

I think the issue people have is how lazy
[Show spoiler]the character’s racism is handled. It’s kind of just thrown in there. I don’t agree with the backlash, but it’s easy to see where it’s coming from.
