I really don't understand where this whole extra super secret uncut edition ever came from besides some people at a panel claiming that they have it. I think some people get the original night of vengeance script. The krug and company version and the regular version all mixed up. I mean even if there was extra super secret footage, how much better is the film going to get?

I’m only passing on this because I just can’t watch this movie more than the two times I already have in my life. This and I Spit on Your Grave are important but a guy has his limitations!

Excellent news for those with a stronger stomach than I.

Never seen this film but I’ve heard there’s some gnarly shit in it. Definitely a day 1 pick up.

I have a strong stomach and can watch this stuff all day. The rape in Irreversible actually makes me uncomfortable, now that I wont watch for at least 2 years.

Right, what's with that
[Show spoiler]blowjob kill?
I don't see how anyone could take that seriously, or could have intended it seriously. It makes it seem like the whole movie is a joke, when the centerpiece deaths are really, really ugly and (I think) the primary reason that this is a minor classic. Everyone always says the cops are the tonal problem, but I can see them as being there as a failed attempt to lighten the mood, which is forgivable. The other...jeez. Completely fails at character motivations and logic in every way.

Johncarpenterfan's reasoning is sound and I can respect that point of view. It just didn't work for me in that way, I guess.

This all said, this looks like a great release and I'm happy for everyone who wants it! I have the Hills Have Eyes release and it's a good one.

Oh man I could only watch that once. One of the worst parts about that scene is the bystander in the background that sort of looks and does nothing if my memory serves me. Brutal stuff. I haven’t watched last house in at least 10 years, I’m curious if my tolerance for that kind of material has gotten stronger.

The scene in I Spit on Your Grave was way better at making me squirm. The Lt House on the Left scene was silly as heck

I have a lot to say about Irreversible but I know this thread will be completely derailed in short order if we continue this thread Basically, though, I don't think it is comparable enough to warrant coming up in a discussion of LHOTL. They're two movies that happen to have rapes as main plot points, just like slashers and like, suspense movies happen to have lots of murders as main plot points.

I Spit On Your Grave, on the other hand, definitely.

I think one reason why some people add movies like this to their collections is for historical purposes, not necessarily because they enjoy the mayhem. These films represent historical landmarks and are culturally important and so deserve a place on the shelf - this is why I'm buying a copy.

Arrow states that the film runs 84 minutes, so it's likely that the "Uncut Version" is just the Director's Cut we have on Blu-ray. Wes Craven revisited the film in the 80s and removed a graphic shot along with some material of the cops.

The only way to see the original and truly uncut version is by watching a print made when the film originally came out.

where did you get this information from? because wes craven doesnt say it in the commentary. the r rated version removes graphic shots and some material of the cops. its really not a giant big deal. but i do believe its misinformation.

Yeah, that's why I have the previous release. I can't justify buying it a second time unless the special features are a huge upgrade. Like, separate commentary tracks from Joe Bob Briggs, John Carpenter/Kurt Russell, and Guillermo Del Toro.

EDIT: Aww, realized the announcement didn't have one of those Criterion style "AND MORE" on their list of special features, so what's on that list is what we get. Yeah, I'll wait for reviews on this one.

3 Cuts of the film eh? I was already on board with this release but that news has only sweetened the deal. Looking at the list of features, at this time does anyone have any reason why I would need to keep the old MGM DVD or Blu Ray? (I probably will anyways but knowing that they have some material I otherwise won't get on the Arrow release is always appreciated.)

I pre-ordered this from Diabolik DVD for $34.99.

Here's looking forward to retiring my old Blu-ray.

I cannot say that I "enjoy" The Last House on the Left, but I like watching it on occasion because of its overall powerful effect.

I love the moment when
[Show spoiler], after they've killed the girls, the villains all just sort of look at one another in an apprehensive "Did we really just do that? What have we done?" sort of way.

The small touches like that make it a movie worth watching.

Arrow went with a 4k remaster for The Hills Have Eyes, I guess they decided the extra expense wasn't worth it for films shot in 16mm.
