It's funny that everything that happens in the Lovecraft short story is crammed into the first 5 minutes of the movie. Everything after that is an expansion on it.

Considering the other titles in the Vestron line go for between $25-$35 Canadian, it's safe to say it will drop some.

They briefly had it listed for $35 which is when I ordered but that was swiftly cancelled so I'm now trying to get them to honour that price.

Since there is no thread for the Umbrella release of Dagon... or at least I could not find any, here is some good news directly from Umbrella.
I asked them about the master Dagon was struck from and if DNR was used like they did with Beyond Re-Animator. They answered "Hi Xxxx, we have not applied any DNR to our release of Dagon."
Too bad they did not say anything about the master.

Sorry for posting in the wrong thread....

Pretty decent review. Sounds like a pretty typical 3.0 - 3.5 Blu Ray release that has become customary from the Vestron line. Those early screen grabs look worse than the later ones so I imagine this will be a mixed bag in terms of presentation. I wish the reviewers would have confirmed that the release was uncut, but I'm sure we'll be hearing that soon enough. The interviews sound very entertaining and I can't wait to check them out. I'm still looking forward to this despite the average sounding picture quality.

Yeah I dig this movie a lot but it is pricey for a subpar presentation.

Looks like an upscale.

Edit: not an upscale, but heavy use of DNR

No way. Those screenshots look more like a 2.0 to 2.5.

I'm usually very lenient when it comes to video quality from any releasing company but this just looks BAD.

I think I'll cancel my pre-order.

Well that's good to know. It seems my German disc is what I'm sticking with until we see some info on the Australian release from Umbrella.

I been looking over the Australian release. Imo it looks like a decent release. It list features that are slightly different but I imagine they will be some the same as far as interviews go. It does list teaser and tv spots that Vestron doesn't. I'm thinking about ordering this soon. Might wait a week more to get the consensus on the Vestron release. I doubt the Aussie release would have an upgrade in PQ over the Vestron.

I really like both art on both the releases too. Also Aussie disc is listed as region b. So some won't be able to play this one as an option. I may end up getting both eventually.

I still need to place my order for Dagon.

Vestron Video has never really impressed me with regard to picture quality, but their presentations are still far from unwatchable, and I’m just happy that folks remember these particular films enough to put them in the format in the first place.

Umbrella hasn't been region locking their discs lately, they will list Region B as they are supposed to legally but the discs play just fine on Region A. I can't confirm all of their releases but I know Silver Bullet, Night of the Living Dead (90) and Orca all play on Region A players.
