She was in the trailer but so briefly you can barely notice it’s her. She’s the only reason I talked myself into seeing it in theaters... I was surprised they seemed to ignore her in marketing this

Sorry, didn't mean to be hostile. I'll leave it here because this will go round in circles and it's the wrong thread anyway.

Somebody spoil the ending for me. I have no intentions on seeing this but I am curious about why the ending is so controversial.

Mediocre film with some nice visuals. Does a terrible job of geography and I have no idea why it's set in the 90s. That non ending is a doozy.

Kate is an unreliable narrator and it essentially tries to set up that
[Show spoiler]the hauntings are all hallucinations in her mind and that she has her mothers condition.

After this long set of "hallucinations", its implied that the scenes were fake and Kate is going mad.

Kate then randomly has a vision of herself in her mothers hospital. Her mother turns her face towards her, Kate screams and the film ends.

We don't even see what Kate saw.

[Show spoiler]It plays with the dream within dream scenario and tries to twist that into something that is left without closure.

In the last 15/20 minutes, Mackenzie Davis character escapes the haunted house, bringing the kids with her.

However, she "wakes up", revealing these 15/20 minutes were a dream and never happened. The movie returns to a scene that plays before these final 15/20 minutes.

However, it turns out that everything before could have a dream, because Mackenzie Davis character "wakes up" again. This time, she's with her mother ( who has a mental disease ). Her mother turns around to look at her, and Mackenzie Davis screams. Ending credits roll.

In a nutshell, you don't see what Mackenzie Davis saw ( they don't show the mother's face when she looks at her ).

So, they're hinting at the possibility the entire movie was just a dream and/or Mackenzie Davis is possibly crazy like her mother. This never gets developed, though. It comes from nowhere.

Yikes. Good thing this movie is being thrashed by critics and general audience alike.

Indeed. This was a movie without ending just like The Devil Inside

It's like a EA game or a Capcom game released unfinished or incomplete, requiring DLC.

Movies like that should be trashed and insulted until the producers finally respect us.

A movie may be bad/horrible, but the lack of a third act / ending is insulting / unforgivable. At least give us a complete movie so we can judge it.

...what the hell was that?

2/5 just for Mackenzie Davis. Where's the director's cut of this before the producers took a buzzsaw to it in post-production?

2/5 I enjoyed most of it, could have went further with Miles' creepy obsession and that ending just sucked. Horror has not had a good few months in my eyes. Doctor Sleep, The Grudge, The Turning I seen in theaters and disliked something about all of them that made them 2/5 movies. Zombieland Double Tap has been the only saving grace the past 4 months

Dr Sleep is 1000 times better than Zombieland 2.

I enjoyed both.

Zombieland 2 is all about meta humor and fun because the protagonists are never really in credible danger that often.

No, it's the other way around: This baffling non ending totally reeks of an "artistic director's vision" and needed a producer's interference to fix and present a coherent ending to the story. I may be forgiving and get the intent but for general audiences I can see this being frustrating and upsetting. This kind of ambiguous some may say pretentious ending belongs in art house cinema and not a pg13 January horror movie made for mass consumption.
Other than that I thought it was fine and enjoyed the cinematography, Mackenzie and the creepy old house maid lady. A soft recommendation for genre fans only. Thank God for A-List!

Yeah, Finn Wolfman is getting close to being overexposed. He’s fine for certain roles. He was a great choice for It and Stranger Things also worked out but now they’re gonna shove him in everything and anything. Hate when they do that.

The more that I think about it, the more that I dig the ending in an offbeat sort of way.

Maybe it's just because I'm still burned by the spoonfed fan service of movies like The Rise of Skywalker, but I like that this one had the tenacity to pull the rug out from under us.

The ending of The Turning reminds me somewhat of the ending of Silent Hill, except nowhere near as coherent.

This is a flawed movie for sure, but I like it.
