^ Great news once again. I was wondering what the status was going to be with the possible picture filtters. Still, there is one guestion that screams the answer and it is the aspect ratio. Maniac like Basket Case and Driller Killer (like so many other great b-movies) was filmed in 16mm and was blow-up to that horrible 35mm like we all know. Now, cause the new scan was produced from the OCN the main question goes: are we going to see an open-matte (4:3) or 1.85:1 (or both) or 1.66:1 or something else in the up coming release? I would love to see open-matte picture like in the Driller Killer from Arrow.

I’m assuming by 3D cover, they mean a lenticular slipcover? If so that’s awesome!

If there is someone in the forum who has time and patience to ask directly from Mr. Lustig or someone from Blue Underground the situation with the aspect ratio in Maniac - 4K mastered release, I would be ever grateful. I'm not in the FB nor any other places like that.

The question is: Is there going to be an OPEN-MATTE (4:3) (like it should be!) or 1.85:1 (or both) or 1.66:1 or some else aspect ratio in the up coming release of Maniac?

I wouldn't call Labyrinth or Dark Crystal big, glossy Hollywood productions, and both of those are on UHD.

Also, both Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Dawn of the Dead are on UHD in other regions.

Why should it be in 4:3? It wasn't composed for or shown in that ratio.

It was filmed in 16mm and then blow-up to 35mm which was given the 1.85:1 aspect ratio. I believe the original camera negative is indeed 4:3 aspect ratio, although it's possible that it is 1.66:1. Correct me if I'm wrong.

That's true. I also tend to think that Bill would probably know better than anyone what aspect ratio he intend the film to be presented in. That's part of the reason I pick up the whole thing in the first place, although I wasn't do much about back ground searching like the e-mail adress which I thank you at this point.

The OAR IS 1.85:1. Though I get some people here; you want an open-matte presentation for the sake of completists, original or intended aspect ratio aficionados, or for the sake of having an open-matte presentation.

While the specs are great, I was just wondering if part of the bonus materials (if not all) are in dvd insted of the actual blu-ray? Although, this is combo right, and many of the archive materials now announced are the old ones that can be found from dvd. Also, there's no mention that those would be in HD. Course there's no reason why the extras can't be in blu-ray at SD.
