It would be nice if those music videos were included but often the rights to those videos and the songs are with the record labels or other production companies and it may simply not be viable to include them, particularly if they predate the era of bonus features on video discs.

Yes! Dragnet one of my favorite underrated comedies of all time. This is a very nice surprise. I had little faith in this movie every seeing a Blu-ray release.

One of my favorite Tom Hanks movies.
Up there with The 'Burbs and Joe vs Volcano.
IMO, he was at his best when paired with another comedian(s) or somebody with good comedic timing to complement his style.
I might have to pre-order this one.

In his comedy movies I think he really only fails to standout in The Burbs. Not that his career is bad, but I don't think he fit as good in more of an ensemble cast.

I never understand why actors don't give a little more time to their past work. Ok the movie was silly, but he met his wife on it, and it starred his longtime friend Fran Drescher - surely that merits at least an interview?

It feels like Hanks has been trying to aviod comedy for years.

I think maybe the actors often fear typecasting, but it seems like Hanks shouldn't be worried about that at this point.

It might also be that the last time he did an all-out comedy, The Ladykillers, it was almost universally hated (but not by me).

Comedy, for the most part, is a young mans game. Plain and simple. It’s the same for pop music and even heavy metal. At some point you lose the fire and/or lose touch with the younger generation

Yeah, I actually like The Ladykillers. It's lesser Coens, but still good.

George Carlin and Jon Stewart were not all that young but both were funny.

But, yeah.... Comedians seem to have about 10 year span at best in film as a comedian... Carrey's career kind of fell apart after 2004... Same for Eddie Murphy. He struggled after about 8 years or so. There are other comedians that had about a 10 year window before they lost touch with audiences. I still think Tom could at least do interviews about his old comedies and stuff.

You guys don't count voice acting as real acting? He's keeping up with comedy there...

To an extent. I also think that a lot of actors look upon comedy as "slumming it". It's okay when you're starting out to do comedy or horror but once you've made it as a "serious" actor and winning Oscars, going back to that is seen as a fall from grace.

Not really. And if you're referring to the Toy Story franchise, I don't consider that real comedy either. They're kids / family films. We're talking about more adult oriented comedy.

Larry Crowne?

David S. Pumpkins?

He appeared in a short cameo for The Greatest Event in Television History: Bosom Buddies and was the body for Carly Rae Jepsen in her I Really Like You music video.

None of which are comedy films in the vein of his 80s work... get with the program here.

Oddly, my comment above was meant to be posted on the Doctor Detroit thread for Aykroyd. But it really does go for Hanks too. I really enjoy things like Bachelor Party and The Man with One Red Shoe.

A lot of performers don't like talking about their older work. With that, some honestly keep their focus on what's next and never reflect back on a project they just worked on, let alone one from decades ago.

It would be awesome if we could get a combo Aykroyd/Hanks interview. The two of them just sharing stories and riffing a la Reeves/Winter with Bill and Ted. But that one's different, they still keep in touch and are working toward a goal of a new movie.

Aykroyd is always game to talk about his baby Ghostbusters, but he's not some retired actor doing nothing. He's keeping up with his vodka business and all that, so it is genuinely possible that with his company, occasional acting, and other items such as family, etc., he just doesn't have time and I doubt at this point Shout will hold out forever for a short interview.
