I really hope it the theatrical cut (or both through seamless branching)! Superman: The Movie is one I've been waiting for! I also hope they go back to the negative (if available).

We might as well ask for the Reb Brown movies as well.
I actually prefer Captain America to Batman and Robin. There is some redeeming quality to Captain America where there sadly is none for Batman and Robin. It's just absolutely awful. If not for Steel, Batman and Robin would be the worst comic book movie ever made. As it is, it's awfully close.

Yeah never been a fan of the extended. I keep thinking about how great the Krypton scene will look in HDR. Was not a release on my radar but now knowing that it’s coming this fall has me very excited. This holiday seasons releases should be outstanding.

Steel made me laugh. Batman & Robin didn’t even have that luxury. When it’s not obnoxious, it’s flat-out boring.

I doubt an Atmos remix using the original sound effects would even be possible. The whole reason new ones were created for the 2001 remix was that the original SFX stem was damaged, and largely unusable. They were able to pull a few individual sounds from it, but most of the track had to be recreated.

Yeah, I think I read that somewhere. What bugged me wasn't so much the new sound FX, but that Donner pretended he knew nothing about it. At least acknowledge it doesn't sound the same anymore. It's not an abomination like The Terminator, but it's different.

I'd be fine with the lossless 2.0 track that was on the Blu-ray if that's the best they can offer.

For me it is the 151 minute cut or pass. So I guess their best bet is both with branching.

Name the redeeming qualities of Captain America (1990)

I like the soundtrack
Given the circumstances of the shoot, it still has some decent production value

Wait a minute... you are talking about Batman and Robin (1949)? I thought you were talking about Batman & Robin (1997).

This changes everything.... Batman and Robin (1949) is a lot of fun and Robert Lowery makes for a pretty cool Batman, Johnny Duncan is still the best live action Robin thus far, and Lyle Talbot is second favorite Gordon. How dare you insult the awesomeness of that serial!

Warners? Branching? Don't be absurd.

I'm good if this is the theatrical cut with remastered original audio (the 2.0 on the Blu-ray sounds very thin and hollow) and an Atmos track based off of the 5.1 remix. That would suit me down to the ground, but Warners will probably put the 5.1 on there as DTS-HD 5.1 with a separate Atmos track and no original audio.

I am talking about the 1997 trash of a film. Considering that there was almost no budget and everything that could go wrong did go wrong with Captain America and yet managed to turn out halfway decent is no small feat. On the other hand, Warner Brothers had all the budget in the world and everything at their disposal to make a really good Batman movie and what do we get? Bat nipples and Bat butt. As for Captain America, it's been a long while since I've seen it, but I thought the actors did well in their roles respectively. And I thought that the production was fairly decent along with fairly decent visuals/effects given they barely had a budget.

The Bat nipple and Bat Tushie are Schumacher's fault, but everything else I blame the same idiots that ruined Justice League.

I loathe the WB execs.

Anyway, I hope that they eventually release all 4 Superman movies on 4K. Even the annoying one with Richard Pryor as the lead and Superman as a supporting player.

Who thought that was a good idea?

Hasn't Warner done a couple of branching titles?

They did Central Intelligence, but as that's a Universal movie elsewhere in the world it wouldn't surprise me if they handled it for Warners. No other of their UHDs come to mind, so CI is very much the exception that proves the rule (even on regular Blu-ray a branching Warners title is rare, e.g. Blade Runner archival cuts disc).

Agreed, i would def triple dip for all Superman movies on 4K ... and as bad as 3 was, it wasn't nearly as awful as 4 !

I’m sure it’s been mentioned already, but once again, Bill Hunt steals the info from this site.

Dude is a hack.

Terrific news! Not a total shock, as WB looks committed to releasing all of their catalog majors on this format. SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE is the superhero movie by which all other superhero movies are judged. For me, it's only one baby-step behind the original STAR WARS as the most important film from my youth. Assuming this is the theatrical cut with original theatrical audio, this will cement 2018 as being a truly phenomenal year for 4k/UHD.

Yeah, I'd like to think that -- buuuut -- I really think SUPERMAN can only look so good. The movie was shot with a ton of diffusion -- trying to make it appear hazy and dreamlike. It's a pretty soft looking movie, so sharpness junkies may be disappointed. And that first VFX flyover of the Kryton dome has always been soft, grainy and pretty lousy looking if I'm being honest. All that being said, the UHD merely needs to be true to that original appearance to be a success. By my count, WB has released THE MATRIX, UNFORGIVEN, BLADE RUNNER and GOODFELLAS from their deep catalog -- and the PQ has been uniformly excellent (inside word is that 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY is similarly impressive.)

Yup. Geoff Unsworth's heavily diffused style won't win many fans from people who are looking to have their eyeballs ravaged by 4K (fast forward a few months to "was this shot in 4K? It looks really grainy and soft") but this has the potential to look ball-achingly gorgeous in a film-like sense in 4K. The current BD presentations are rather tired old transfers from IP materials so if this is worked on from the camera original, oh mai.
