Is this one of those movies that I liked as a kid but as an adult I might dislike?

It feels like it could be. I honestly forgot that it exists.

Why does it feel like every single one of your posts reads like this?

I honestly don't know what you're talking about. It's a movie involving talking action figures. I was simply asking if it's one of those movies that you remember being good as a child, but watch years later and realize it's not.

I'm not bashing this release or anything. Just asking for opinions. Don't make something out of nothing.

It's not about talking action figures, but about a group of terrorists holding college students and professors in hostage.

You, sir, are correct. I got confused by the title and the 90's release date. Apologies.

The disc does say "(c) 1991 Orion Pictures Corporation." Both Google Play and Fandango show the same, so what is the connection with Orion being the copyright holder?

wiki sates mario kassar as one of the producers. so i'm pretty sure that where the connection to orion would lie.

Which deepens the mystery. Mario Kassar was just wrapping up his involvement with Carolco at the time I believe. At about the same time Orion was closing their doors for good. Could've been a limited partnership between MGM and Columbia Pictures/Tri Star.

TOY SOLDIERS is a Tri-Star movie that was produced by a company called Island World.

AFAIK Island World held the copyright on this film, and that's why it's assigned to Orion today (also why MGM distributes the movie in some foreign markets and has some TV rights to the film). Island World went under in 1995 and I think Orion absorbed their limited amount of film assets when that happened (and later MGM after they gobbled up Orion).

Domestically, this has always been a Tri-Star movie, but the film was a co-production between them.

Kassar has nothing to do with this film. And Orion and MGM had nothing to do with the production of the movie either...it's a Tri-Star/Island World co-production where the only involvement Orion/MGM has is now distributing for the territories Island World originally held overseas. I think!

Just watched my copy and the transfer is stunning. I've owned this on amazon prime HD and this is just further proof how much better blu ray is compared to streaming. The stream is loaded with artifacts and the blu ray is much more detailed with an attractive layer of grain. Very happy Sony released this.
