I'm trying my computer now and getting the same message you mentioned above. I'd like to try hooking it up to my TV, as cumbersome as that might be. Hopefully they get this sorted out as soon as possible.

I thought this service was supposed to include the entire Criterion Collection catalog? There are tons of titles not available.

I got the idea to go directly to the site on Safari and try linking via HDMI there. It does work this way, although you have to start the video first and then plug it in, otherwise a time-out error message will appear.

Maybe they are still adding stuff.

I just added it to my Roku, activated the device, and threw a movie into my watchlist (Mikey and Nicky, which I watched the first week when the VHX app briefly worked on Roku). Haven't tested watching an actual movie yet. I'm expecting early first week hiccups, but the process has been smooth so far.

Well, if there are 1,400ish titles in their library, they claim to have 1,000 on the site, and you say there are a few hundred missing... the math does check out...

Seriously what's the excitement about this? Is for people that don't like or buy psychical format?

The only good thing to me about this, is maybe many people start to sell his criterions for low prices.

I don't own a single disc or player to play them on, nor have any plans to do so, so yes...

You can use the search bar on the site - if available and not listed that may get you a hit. I found a few titles that way that are not easily visible on the site.

Most people cannot afford 1,000 Criterion Blu-rays or DVDs.

If you can, then this service is clearly not for you.

It's not that straightforward for me as I actually love the physical format. However, I prefer to keep my buys to movies that I really love and know I'll re-watch. I also realistically need to be aware of space and money too. So the Criterion Channel works great for me. It's a good way for me to get on to new movies/directors and not risk a lot of blind buys. If I fall in love with something I see on the channel, I'll still buy it.

You seriously don't see the reason to be excited about it yet you're on this thread?

I already own probably dozens of Criterions in physical format. I just don't want to buy everything they've released that I might just want to watch once.

Some Criterions are available from the local library, others are available from Netflix's DVD service. But there are yet others that aren't as easy to pin down.

I've only taken a quick glance at the selections, and I'm already widely excited about the service. I have a 30-day free trial, so I can change my mind, but I think this one is definitely a keeper!

No, it’s for people who like film and would like to see this succeed because these kinds of films stand a better chance of staying visible in the changing media landscape in a form like this instead of just becoming extra content to dump anonymously on large streaming services, increasingly ignored and marginalized in favor of anything current and popular.

The Criterion Channel serves the same function that the US cable/satellite channel Turner Classic Movies serves - it’s a great repository and resource that stands clear amongst everything else out there. TCM is precisely what a good premium TV channel should be, The Criterion Channel is exactly what a good streaming service should be.

Do you people never watch movies on TV? There’s no difference here, it’s the same kind of option we’ve always had or wanted - you can buy Blu-rays and you can try other things or see things that aren’t available through The Criterion Channel. It’s not an either/or situation.

I'm glad to see someone say they are wildly excited about this because damn.. I am too! haha. There's been some lukewarm remarks so far, but personally I feel like a kid in a candy store.

I do wish TCM was available without any kind of cable subscription - essentially the same way the Criterion Channel works. I simply don't have the patience to deal with a cable company ever again.

Me too! Did you see they have Bugsy Malone? I'm pretty sure they've never released it on disc or laserdisc or anything. And even though I already bought it on iTunes, it's still nice to see unexpected surprises.

thanks for your responses and I got all your points and I agree.

but the true there's not excitement for me... I pass, the true excitement for me is have a physical copy in my hands, read the manual, look the new artwork, play extras etc.

Streaming music, movies etc... is like buy air... I'm a physical format collector.

I do, I actually do. In spite of that, I think the Criterion Channel is for me. I can always cancel in the future.

And what about all the movies they have that are not available to purchase on disc? Are you a movie fan or a buying stuff fan?
