Enjoyed this in the theater but balked at the UHD's relatively high asking price until Black Friday. Finally got around to watching my copy (I was waiting for it to finally feel like winter here ) and was reminded of how much this pleasantly surprised me. It feels a bit like a cross between Fargo and Breaking Bad with Liam Neeson's po-faced parody of his action hero persona holding it all together. It shouldn't work but it does.

The UHD is gorgeous too and the audio presentation effectively uses side channels (watched with Dolby Vision and 3.1 audio). This is definitely entering my regular winter rotation.

Nailed it! It even "suffers" from certain qualities I complain about in other films (such as jarring tonal shifts), but inexplicably, they somehow work in this delightfully oddball film's favor!

That's because it's entirely intentional, and integral to the story. Rather than being the result of inconsistent directing and bad editing, which leads to unintentional tonal shifts

I’m watching this one, and I notice that the whole film seems to have elevated milky blacks. The black bars are black. So I am assuming that this is a visual choice made by the filmmakers. I’m watching DV on a calibrated set.

Yes it's in the source. I've no clue how this was graded but presumably it looked fine for the cinematographer even if the end result is a very flat picture.

Just blind bought this one from Amazon since it was cheap... I had a lot of fun with it. Blood and dark humor are all I need sometimes. This hit the spot

Cold Pursuit is a fictional R rated movie that had a budget of $60 million dollars with box office sells of $76.3 million dollars. Over the years I have been a big fan of Liam Neeson action movies, and Cold Pursuit was an enjoyable movie to watch with nice sound effects (a family member rented this movie in 2019 on Blu-ray, and I liked it well enough to purchase the 4K Blu-ray version). The fictional character Nels Coxman becomes upset when his innocent son is murdered by a drug cartel. The fictional Nels Coxman character likes to use various methods to take care of issues he has with the drug cartel. He also visits a scenic waterfall a few times during the movie. This movie has nice scenic images of Colorado, however according to the extra features the movie was filmed in Canada (The Rocky Mountains looks very similar in some areas of Canada and Colorado).

Cold Pursuit was released on the 4K Blu-ray format on 5-14-2019. A total of 74.4GB of space out of 100GB is used on the triple layer 4K Blu-ray disc. Also enclosed is a standard dual layer Blu-ray disc that uses a total of 40.6GB of space out of 50GB. The only exclusive extra on the standard Blu-ray disc is a few movie preview trailers. For some reason Lionsgate does not include movie preview trailers on the BD-100 disc (they should include it as a bonus feature in the menu and they do not need to include it with the loading of the disc). Anyways besides the preview trailers, 100% of all the rest of the extra features are located on the BD-100 disc using the MPEG-4/AVC codec at 1080P quality. Cold Pursuit is in native 4K using Dolby Vision HDR for this 4K Blu-ray release (HEVC codec used for the movie), also movie contains a lossless 13.1 Dolby Atmos soundtrack. Because of limitations with my display and A/V receiver, the 4K Blu-ray was downscaled to 1080P with 7.1 Dolby TrueHD core audio. My year 2016 OPPO UDP-203 Blu-ray player played back the triple layer BD-100 disc perfectly fine even while doing several reverse scans.

Found this new at Newbury Comics for $5.99 so I picked it up.

The scenes in the movie that where Nels driving back to the city really bugged me. The obvious CGI cars (and I assume the rest of the scene) really stuck out like a sore thumb.

Oh, and good luck burying a body in a mountaintop cemetery in the middle of the winter!

This was such a quirky movie, especially with the thing they did whenever someone died. Elevated black levels and barely any overhead usage. Will be watching The Ice Road soon and hope that is better.
