Jesus, two discs for 986 minutes, plus extras? That's at least 480 minutes of content per disc! This isn't HD digital video, either. With eight hours on each disc, I'm afraid these won't look much better than streaming, but maybe that's the point...

I thought WB would go for three discs instead of four discs, but two?!?!?! That seems pathetically cheap. I knew the lack of price difference between the Blu-ray and DVD signaled an issue.

But hey, at least they ported over the extras from the original DVD set!

And the DVD set lists 6 discs...

It seemed obvious from the jump that this would be a 2 disc release. It's not that many episodes to where I'd imagine a company would stretch it out across 4 discs.

There is a number between 2 and 4 however.

Yeah but we all know these companies want to be as cheap as humanly possible.

Hopefully, they’ll release the original series in a collectors packaging. This cartoon definitely deserves a special treatment. Still have the DVD release in the Mystery Machine (not the cheap cardboard version). Hands down my favorite cartoon!

Maybe it's not such a bad thing the Warner Archive is doing the other Hanna-Barbera shows.

I thought that arrangement was emblematic of little Warner Bros. cares about anything not Scooby, but Jonny Quest and The Jetsons will reap the benefits of better bitrates, better compression and (more than likely) no DNR.

I'm all for them doing that to make you happy, but if they do I sure hope it's optional. I'm hoping for a release of both the original Scooby and The Flintstones specifically so I can get rid of the overdone oversized packaging.

When was it ever said it was a bad thing? I for one was extremely happy because I knew Warner would pull this crap and WAC would put more care in.

And that doesn't just refer to the compression and DNR, I think they'll do a much better job of the restoration in general.

I suspect the opposite is far more likely, since Warner Bros. are releasing these movies, rather than the series first on Blu-ray.
Has anyone else noticed Warner Bros are relying heavily (recent movies, new series, and now this) on celebrities in general to sell Scooby-Doo lately?

I don't think anyone in this series is really going to be considered a celebrity by buyers.

I disagree though, I would think that since this contains episodes people couldn't get before and there's such a small price difference between the Blu-ray and DVD, it will get close to the equivalent of what the original would get.

Unfortunately there is an extremely large amount of people who still do not care about quality and will never re-buy something they already have on DVD.

I don't know that I've ever seen a disc with 8 hours of content. I wonder how much better these will look than the old DVD set. Unless there was a lot of clean up, I bet the difference will be marginal.

The old DVD had about three hours of content on each disc, for comparison.

The new Blu-Ray is guaranteed to have compression issues the old disc did not have.

I don't think that's fair. Yes, the improvement might be marginal but I don't think it will have compression issues that the old disc didn't.

Three hours over a 9GB disc vs 8 hours over a 50GB disc
MPEG2 vs AVC

It's possible the Hanna-Barbera Diamond Edition (as a majority of releases in that line and a selection DC Animated re-releases) is slightly compressed because it's part of "genius" idea of compacting the contents for certain number of discs to a smaller number and omitting extras to boot. You're better off just reprinting the old discs since it's better (and cheaper than making new discs).

But with the new DVD edition being 6 discs, that's around 4 episodes per discs so there's more breathing room AND porting back the extras. THAT'S how you do it!

And while the Addams Family episode won't be included, I'll still hold out for a last minute announcement that they cleared the rights, but I doubt it.

Still, impressive work. Impressive work.

If they're going to squeeze that much onto two discs, they should utilize at least multi-pass encoding and hopefully optimize encoding for limited animation.

Low-bitrates can work with great care. The Six-Million Dollar Man blu-ray set is an excellent example.

I was not impressed with the way they handled Batman: The Animated Series. Hopefully, this will be a better effort.

So you're just going to ignore how they complete screwed over the superior Blu-ray format and praise them for how well they treated the inferior format?

They didn't screw anything up. The Hanna-Barbera Diamond Edition (as a majority of releases in that line and a selection DC Animated re-releases) were DVD only (my points are valid regardless).

This is the first time the show has been on Blu-ray and I was talking about the DVD counterpart which will be an improvement of the Diamond "re-release".

So it's only a screw up if they've already screwed it up in the past?
