Good news is that the film looks fantastic. Really happy about that.

Bad news, is that it has that thicker box and has a barcode on the disc. I figured it would be similar to Under the Silver Lake which had a normal box and no weird barcode on the disc. Not sure why it would be different if they are both from Lionsgate.
Did you order from Amazon?

That would explain it then as Amazon tends to manufacturer their own burned copies. It most likely states "Manufactured by Amazon.com kydc, Lexington, KY" on top of the bar code? They also add a bar code to the disc. Not all burned MOD releases are equal. I tend to avoid Amazon for any MOD releases.

Why did Lionsgate even ****ing bother with this release? BD-R, no extras and lossy audio. I really hope a label like Arrow gets a hold of it for another territory.

Lossy audio on a BD in 2019 is pretty bad in my opinion, but it says a lot about Lionsgate's expectations for sales. It looks like they are keeping costs down for a reason.

Interesting. Yeah, it does say that on the barcode. So if I bought it from say, BullMoose, it would have a regular box?

Ended up buying a second copy from BullMoose and this release was much better than the Amazon one. Not weird box, and no weird barcode on the disc. Not ordering any MOD BDR's from Amazon.

I'll keep this in mind I ordered mine from Barnes and Noble and there was nothing odd about the disc going on, no barcode on label side and normal case. It wouldn't bother me that much though as it's a MOD BD-R but if I could avoid it sure.

Your getting the higher bit rate with disc vs streaming on iTunes movies it still looks good but bit rate is much lower. Except for 4K most iTunes HD movie releases are less than 6GB. This disc is for fans or heavy admirers of the film easily who want best video quality. It is pretty amazing how most iTunes HD movie streams look so good though despite the lower bit rate. I guess it's good to have both options disc plus digital.

What's supposed to be the sound mix? imdb says Dolby SR, but this one has 5.1. Is it a remix or was a 5.1 mix hidden somewhere?

1998 seems a bit late for Dolby SR. Dolby SR-D had been around for at least 5 years by 1998. The DVD replicates the track quite well for this type of movie when run through Dolby Pro Logic. The DVD is the only release I can recall that had the Dolby Stereo (Theatrical) logo on the back of the case; it should have been the Spectral Recording logo.

Bumping the thread to put some positive energy out there: with Brendan Fraser winning an Oscar last night maybe this could get a 25th anniverary special edition later this year.
