United Kingdom Back to the Future II and the original Carrie

When checking the Coming Soon section on Odeon's website earlier this week, I spotted a listing for Back to the Future II (35th Anniversary and BTTF Day) and the original Carrie. The release date stated is Monday 21st October and Friday 18th October respectively.

Starting on Friday 9/20 and running through to (at least) next Thursday AMC Theatres as part of their $5 Fan Faves are showing Batman (1989), Batman Forever and Batman: Mask of the Phantasm to celebrate the 85th Anniversary of Batman!

Glad US audiences are gonna see Phantasm. I saw it a few weeks ago in the UK and it was great.

Anyways, I recently saw A New Hope as part of the UK's showings of Star Wars movies, and can confirm it's the Disney+ "Maclunkey" version.

I wouldn't have questioned what version it was gonna be (obviously not the unaltered) if it weren't for a friend of mine who recently went to a live concert showing of ANH and saw that it was the 1997 version, complete with early CGI Jabba.

I had the opportunity to watch Batman: Mask of the Phantasm on Friday and Sunday but I couldn't make it. I'm still kicking myself for that! I did see Batman and Batman Forever though.

I'm really hoping that for Star Wars 50th anniversary they will show the original theatrical versions of the original trilogy!

So will I, however I strongly doubt it.

I imagine we'll see releases of Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair and the Ghibli Museum shorts before we get another unaltered release.

Speaking of rereleases, a film I hope they show in UK cinemas again is The End of Evangelion. GKIDS' rerelease in the US was quite the hit for them, so I can imagine All the Anime doing it here either next year (30th anniversary of the show) or 2027 (30th anniversary of the movie).

Will be keeping an eye on the Coming Soon section on Odeon's website in the hope that they will be showing Dirty Harry (read recently on Park Circus' website about it being shown in UK cinemas sometime between April and June).

United Kingdom Harry Potter and Jaws screenings

A day or two ago while checking the Coming Soon section on Odeon's website, I spotted a couple of new additions (release date stated on both website pages is beside each film title below):

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (20th anniversary) - Monday 25th August
Jaws (50th anniversary re-issue) - Friday 29th August.

There will also be a screening of Jaws in 3D. Surprised by how late Odeon are being with the Jaws screenings (was the film still in UK cinemas in late-August fifty years ago?).

During the past week, spotted the following additions to the Coming Soon section on Odeon's website (quite a few):

Constantine (20th Anniversary) - Friday 17th October
The Descent (20th Anniversary) - Friday 24th October
GoldenEye (30th Anniversary) - Friday 3rd October
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - Friday 5th September
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom - Friday 5th September
Jumanji (30th Anniversary) - Friday 5th September
Raiders of the Lost Ark - Friday 5th September
Thunderbirds: Trapped in the Sky/Terror in NYC - Saturday 20th September.

Note: The release dates stated beside each of the above are on their Odeon website page.

Comment: Sadly, Thunderbirds is being shown at selected Odeon cinemas, and GoldenEye may only be being shown again on one day.
