Quote:
The team behind the BBC’s Sherlock series have confirmed that their forthcoming version of Dracula will also be “completely up its own arse”.

“We’re planning to start off well, giving Bram Stoker’s original material a modern twist,” said writer Mark Gatiss.

“But then it’s just going to go completely up its own arse.”

Co-writer Steven Moffat agreed, saying, “We’re going to run out of ideas pretty quickly and leave gaping plot holes everywhere, so we’re going to have to have 17 episodes about the wedding of a secondary character, then bring in Dracula’s previously unheard of sister who it turns out has disguised herself as every other character in the show or something completely up its own arse like that.

“Then we’ll have an episode that’s a rip-off of the Crystal Maze, then one just all taking place in Dracula’s head.

“No, hang on a sec, it’s all taking place up his own arse.”

Moffat and Gatiss then high-fived each other at just how up its own arse that idea was.

Producer Sue Vertue summed up the show: “It’s a good job this guy hates sunlight, because the whole thing is so up its own arse he’s never going to see any.”

Started episode 2 the other night, nice to see iPlayer was in UHD with HLG, didn't notice a huge amount of range, but it looked nice enough.

All the people who sound like they were somehow forced to watch this against their better judgement and have subsequently suffered the cruel ordeal of having their prejudices confirmed to them... have you made a statement to the police about this?

[Show spoiler]Their worldcast wasn't samey-wamey with the bibliotype! I COULD believe my glazzballs!

News Alert! This is extremely important!

"New power station to be powered by Bram Stoker spinning in his grave."

"Britain is expected to achieve its zero-carbon targets almost thirty years early after Bram Stoker was discovered to be spinning in his grave at over 72,000 rpm overnight.

Seismologists had noticed a faint hum from Stoker’s last resting place on Thursday evening, which rose to a staggering speed at about 9:15 yesterday evening and shows no sign of abating.

”We quickly plugged him into a turbine and now he’s powering Wales and most of the South West on his tod,” explained power engineer Simon Williams.

”It’s a mystery what might have caused this to happen. Stoker has occasionally shifted in his eternal sleep – there was what’s known as the ‘Keanu disturbance’ in 1992, for example, but this is unprecedented.

”Possibly something absolutely shit on telly at just after, oooh, nine last night kicked him off and he’s gone like a rocket ever since.”

Scientists say that this couldn’t have happened at a better time, as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle – whose turning has been powering Birmingham from his grave since the finale of Sherlock several years ago – appears to be finally slowing down."

Thought the first episode was very good (really enjoyed it), sort-of liked the second episode (initially I found the ending jaw-dropping, until I thought more about it and didn't find it as jaw-dropping, but it was still impressive), but the last episode...what was that all about? I thought it was going in the direction of being a remake of the last two Hammer Dracula films starring Sir Christopher Lee. However, I thought Claes Bang was excellent throughout in the role of Dracula.

The new documentary In Search of Dracula with Mark Gatiss I enjoyed more than the repeat of the MR James documentary (also presented by Gatiss).

Ok....this may be a “noob” question...but I don’t watch much on Netflix. But I’ve read that you should have at least 25 mbps for a 4k signal. So while watching this in Dolby Vision...my screen says 15.25 mbps?!?

06C765BE-281F-4CA7-A9FE-C54D05BA7524.jpg

But when I check my signal....( I paused the movie to check) it reads 88.81mbps?!? So then I unpaused the show and continued...it still read 15.25 mpbs?! So if anyone can explain this to me...it would be greatly appreciated!!

Update. First statement from Stoker since being woken from death by a terrible disturbance. "I just don't understand why people get so upset those things. Why do they need to get me involved? I never wrote a movie or a tv screenplay, whatever they are, or had any interest in them so what's it got to do with me? My original remains unaltered. Why should people piss and moan so loudly about it? Did they forget they can still read my book? Or are they just keen to remind other people that they've read my book, and do it in the most nauseating and obnoxious manner possible. The movies and shows are only a couple of hours long. If only the wailing and howling about them lasted as briefly. Children of the night. What tedious music they make. And you can quote me on that."

I really didn't think it was bad. It was just the sudden shift between episodes. Compare it with Dracula 3000, Dracula 3D, Franco's Dracula, Dracula 2000, Billy The Kid Vs Dracula or Vampira (David Niven in blackface)

It seemed pretty clear that they weren't going to be all that faithful to the novel and it wasn't going to be the new Dracula miniseries I've been dreaming about. Once I got over that, I thought it was decently entertaining and I was never bored by it. Goes off the rails a few times, but I'm a fan of Moffat's going back to Coupling so I knew what to expect.

And it's not like any other recent TV version of Dracula has been particularly good or faithful to the novel. The most recent examples that come to mind are the Jonathan Rhys Meyers NBC show and that 2006 BBC movie.

I just finished this series. Like most people...I really enjoyed the first 2 episodes! I didn’t HATE the 3rd one...
[Show spoiler]I just wish it would have stayed in the same time period! Why couldn’t they have just had the manhunt stay in 1897!?
Anyway...overall it was enjoyable

I just finished this on Netflix and thought that the first two episodes were great but the final one struggled to find it's place. I do remember a throwaway line from either episode 1 or 2 ,when Agatha mentions that she has a connection to someone in London. I assume she meant Sherlock Holmes, which was neat.

This three-part presentation is Dracula in name only. Certain ideas were pulled from Bram Stoker's book, and especially the names Dracula, Van Helsing (a nun?!), Dr. Steward, Jonathan Harker, and Renfield. Take those names away and you have is just a mediocre, but passable vampire story which are a dime a dozen.

I said in my first post that I was glad this was going to be a period piece from seeing the trailer, but I didn't see that third installment comming! It kind of ruined this vampire story for me. Although I have to admit it was clever to have Dracula spend all those years in his ocean grave so he could be brought back to 2020 to be greeted by a descendant of Van Helsing. Perhaps that was the most original idea in this vampire (not Dracula) production.

I'd imagine that 25 Mbps is a recommended speed for 4K content, not that 4K content hits 25 Mbps. I can't hit 25 Mbps with my connection, but often get 4K.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, check some other content, I think it caps out to 15 Mbps in most cases.

What did others here think of the BBC iPlayer UHD presentation?... We watched the first episode on live TV, but only recently caught the other two via iPlayer and the only option was the UHD version. On our TV (budget end LG 4k with HDR) it looked very strange, with washed out blacks and and odd effect that made almost every scene look like it had been filmed against green screens, even when they obviously had not. We also got that HFR soap opera effect... what frame rate does iPlayer UHD output?... I found it really distracting, although not so bad in ep3 due to a lot to the locations, where it came across as a more stylised look, with colours really popping. I wonder if our TV is not working properly with the iPlayers UHD and HDR output?

Type in "Dracula" in the search bar and this release doesn't even show up? Just me, wtf?
But if you add 2020, it shows up. Weird. Somebody should fix this bs.
