Well, that was pretty terrible. Apart from the main lead who had a little bit of charm, everyone else was annoying as hell, the dialogue was terrible and the acting was amateur hour. It lacks any kind of fun or adventure and was dull and boring, it was obviously done on a very tight budget with the same locations used multiple times and felt like it was going nowhere fast and running around in circles. This is obviously aimed at the teenage market and is not to be taken seriously.
Won't be seeing any further episodes. Quote:

It's not bad, but it's not good. They basically made a young adult National Treasure, then stuck the lead character with an annoying best friend who got her computer training from NCIS or Criminal Minds. But the biggest problem with these types of shows is when the writing staff isn't creative enough to come up with interesting clues and puzzles.

I'm a fan of the movies & I kinda enjoyed this for what it was, but that's spot-on.
The cast all feel quite bland (especially Keitel's grandson who seems to have wandered in from the set of Nashville) & the stuff about the lead being an immigrant feels shoehorned in. Message! ![]() Also, I know it's only 2 episodes in, but it certainly hasn't found the sense of 'fun' the movies had yet. The way she solved the puzzle box was hilariously random though; "Where does the rabbit go?" ![]() Felt a bit sorry for Harvey Keitel. He looked like he was contractually obligated to be there. Hope he was well paid. The best thing I can say about it so far is I'm glad they kept composer Trevor Rabin & his great score from the movies, even if they felt the need to put a Latin twist on some of it. I liked the title sequence too. I'll stick with it, if only to see how they crowbar Justin Bartha into it. |

Episode 3 was good with the Elvis twist. So far the only good things are the main lead and Sandusky's grandson, they seem to have good chemistry. Her friends are annoying and feel out of place.
It's a decent show so far but when they say stuff like mansplaining, being illegal (really trying to drive home that point), non-binary bathrooms it completely takes you out of the viewing experience for a short while. Those things don't add anything to character development or enhance the story in anyway, its just there in your face. |

I'm still trying to figure out who the target audience is for this ? I enjoyed the movies but this show is extremely generic and very safe not to upset anyone.
They even have to make sure that they point out the type of moths they release so we the viewer don't think they're a-holes for releasing them. Hey we found a clue ! They've been trying to solve it for years. But don't worry we can figure it out within a few minutes. Okay.... The lead is fine but they could easily replace the rest of the dreadful cast. |
