The original was a landmark show of its time. It was a series that as a little kid you'd pretty much be thinking about the episode for the rest of the week because many of the segments were downright terrifying. The eerie synth score was scary enough and Robert Stack's deadpan style and narration was perfect. The paranormal/supernatuarl segments were especially frightening to me and I often had nightmares from them. They had a really creative computer graphics department for the time and the episodes with UFOs, ghosts, aliens, etc. looked real enough to me then. Watched a few of the episodes of season 1 on Amazon and it was interesting because many of the 'actors' in the re-enactments were the actual people who the story was based on. I've wanted to watch more, but it's so time consuming to go through them; it'd take a while to even catch up to the time period when I was watching the show when I was a kid. Also kind of curious in the newer show since there would be some contemporary stories as well. And a final aside, Rescue 911 was also an interesting accessory show of the time that I haven't seen since it first aired.

For fans of Netflix's Unsolved, I recommend checking out a new true crime doc from them titled Girl in the Picture. Just finished it, and found a lot of it disturbing, and tragic, but well done, and somewhat in the vein of the new Unsolved series. Part of the story was actually featured in an older episode of Unsolved, which they showed a small clip of in this doc

Hilariously enough.... what freaked me out the most as a young child was the police sketches. Those always looked creepy AF. lol it's been fun going back and watching these again as of late.

Hopefully going to watch the first three editions of the Unsolved Mysteries revival's third volume sometime this coming weekend (might end up watching the feature-length documentary Girl in the Picture as well).

On seeing your post on this page MifuneFan about feature-length Netflix documentary/true crime documentary Girl in the Picture, I added it to the list of titles I was going to get round to watching. Watched it last month (November), around the time I finished watching the nine editions in the third volume of the Unsolved Mysteries revival. I agree with what you say about the documentary (think it has an '18' certificate here and agree with that because of the content and subject matter).
As for the third volume of the Unsolved Mysteries revival, like any true crime documentary series/mini-series, 'enjoy' may be the wrong word to use, but I thought the Mile Marker edition was the best (in my opinion), but there were a handful of others which were nearly as good. I know it might have been because of the pandemic, but if a fourth volume is ordered, hopefully we don't have to wait as long for it, and that they increase the episode count a bit. |

Boutique label TerrorVision have released on vinyl, cassette and CD, Unsolved Mysteries: Volume One (score music from the original television series). Should be getting my copy of the CD release soon (been looking forward to it as that music in the original series helped to create that scary, moody and sometimes creepy atmosphere (it had eerie score music).
Secondly, found out on the Facebook page "The Official Unsolved Mysteries" two or three weeks ago about a documentary that has been made to celebrate thirty-five years of the show (based on EpGuides, this coming Thursday (October 5th) marks the thirty-fifth anniversary of the first episode of the first season (which followed the specials presented by Karl Malden, Raymond Burr and Robert Stack) premiering on US TV). The documentary, Unsolved Mysteries: Behind the Legacy, is being shown in Alamo Drafthouse theaters/cinemas in the States tomorrow (Wednesday, October 4th) and this coming Thursday (October, 5th). It will also be available to stream on Pluto TV this coming Thursday as well (it's probably a slim hope, but I hope it gets a physical media release). Early information (not much in terms of detail yet), but earlier I read on the Facebook page "The Official Unsolved Mysteries" that a fourth volume is happening sometime this year (had hoped there would be a fourth volume).
Still hoping for a physical media release this year of the documentary Unsolved Mysteries: Behind the Legacy. |

The best edition (the most intriguing case) in my opinion in the third volume was the one to do with the railtracks. |

Have been checking the The Official Unsolved Mysteries Facebook page since I read that a fourth volume of the reboot series was happening sometime this year, to see when it would be made available. Then by accident, I saw on the News Feed yesterday or the day before that the fourth volume (I assume split into two or three batches of editions like before) will be made available on Netflix three weeks tomorrow (Wednesday, July 31st).

Have read on the web this past weekend (and I had a feeling this was the case, as last season was comprised of nine editions), that four further editions will be made available on Netflix in October in time for Hallowe'en. It says "Volume 5", but it sounds like a fourth produced volume of nine editions (the first five made available last week, with the last four in October). |

This season was a waste.
Body in the Basement, The Head and Murder Center Stage were great, but then they threw in the pointless Jack the Ripper episode and absurd ‘Mothman’ episode (they were blue cranes lol) instead of using the tiny season to highlight a missing person or unsolved murder. Two year wait for 5 episodes??? |

Have just the "Mothman Revisited" edition left to watch from Volume Four: Part One. The "Murder, Center Stage" edition, a very eerie case (the location both inside and outside for example). The original Robert Stack series is available on Amazon Prime, but ideally I'd like a boutique label like Terror Vision Records to do a physical media 'sample' release, where they do a DVD and/or Blu-ray release of the pre-series specials and the first full season. |
