How does DB and/or DBZ fare out of the US? Better? Is there a good collection of this property on BD?!

Just for the Movies DB/Z on BD in Japan, and sometime later in France (and they're apparently being released in Germany, too).

Now, these are the English DVD releases worth getting:

Dragon Ball - Saga Sets (FUNimation/Madman)
Dragon Ball Z - Dragon Box Z (FUNimation)
Dragon Ball GT - Singles (FUNimation/Madman)

Those are the quality releases for the English market.

Non-English releases? Well, go right ahead for the Japanese ones, but they'll cost you a pretty penny (the FUNi Dboxes would do too, but probably not as high).

The FUNimation Dragon Boxes Z were limited although we never knew how limited.

I'm surprised Best Buy won't be carrying these in store on Tuesday.

Maybe you'll have better luck. US Walmarts have become trash when it comes to physical media.

Most people already figured as much, but these are 100% confirmed to be the 30th anniversary disc, unaltered. The Steelbooks at least look a lot better than the renders.

https://www.kanzenshuu.com/forum/vie...t=220#p1677913

I hate this cycle. These are a step in a better direction, but still doesn't even touch the work that was done on the canned level sets. I'm getting rid of my 2013 set regardless of whether I decide to get these on a deal. Really conflicted. At least dragon box footage with broadcast audio is easily accessible nowadays.

That it is. I am going to burn all the episodes to blu ray then buy one of these steels to house them. There is no going back once you have the broadcast audio. I wish the colors were more accurate but that is the only complaint I can think of.

I get a decent discount with Target. If they get the sets in stock in store (I won't bother risking buying a steel through the mail), then I might bite.

There are projects to fix the colours on the Dragon Box footage, but like any fan project related to Dragon Ball, there's a ton of drama. It's hard to say when we will get a perfect combination of fixed DBox footage with the broadcast audio.
I'm content with the combo of Level set and DBox footage with broadcast audio, all fit onto a thumb drive. I only bought the 2013 blus on the cheap for legal ownership reasons, but now I'm just getting sick of even seeing that trash on my shelf.

You read my mind. I don't know if I should sell the 2013 amazon set or not. It has been 6 months and they are just collecting dust. I bought it much for the same reasons you did but I doubt I am ever going to watch it especially with the dbox rips with broadcast audio. I really wish these guys would finish the level sets or at least release up to trunks appearance which is where they were at supposedly production wise.

Thumbs down

[Show spoiler]New update! These aren't quite the same as the 30th anniversary release. Turns out they did a new encode of the 30th anniversary sets with a LOWER BITRATE...

https://www.kanzenshuu.com/forum/vie...78132#p1678111

Funimation has hit such new levels of incompetence that I can't even fathom how they ****ed this up so hard.

Hopefully for the sake of those who bought these, Funi offers some kind of disc replacement program. But I highly doubt it knowing most won't even care.

Whoops! Seems like this person was looking at compressed video files. The bitrate is actually on par with the 30th set. My bad.

Man that is really low. I do not know who is making the decisions over there but they clearly regard the fans as dense. I am not going to give them another penny unless they finish the level sets or something better.

I’m not new to DBZ, but I’m also not an expert. Casual viewer I suppose. That said, I bought these being in 4:3 vs the 1.78 set that’s been available. I originally watched these on VHS back in 1995 on VHS that a friend who lived in Okinawa and the Philippines had on a smaller than 13” TV. Liked what I saw but had no idea what it was. I later watched these on Cartoon Network/Toonami after school. I owned the big saga box sets that had individual DVD cases in them. Probably the first 3 or 4 only. I watched them but they were taken from me. So it’s been quite a while.
A few quick questions:
1. what is the best informational site about DBZ, I clicked the links mentioned above but was looking for more comparisons and facts. Not opinions,
2. The English 5.1 seems quieter than the English 2.0 on these, I don’t have surround so I’m fine with that. I do wish there were subtitles for the English. The subtitles differ greatly from what is spoken. I haven’t tried Japanese yet.
3. I don’t recall these openings closings. Are they different from the original Toonami run? Also, the closing song has lyrics on screen but not spoken (played on English 2.0) There is a small vocal right before the still shot of Piccolo near the end of the credits. Sounds like a radio transmission. But it doesn’t match the subs that play.
4. I can’t say I find much music unsettling but that closing instrument is quite addictive and unsettling. Is these a reasonable option for the DBZ soundtrack on CD?

To answer your questions about the opening and closings, those instrumentals were made for the season dvds to better match up with the japanese openings and closing footage while still being consistent with the american dub music in the episodes. I assume this was to save space by not having to include alternate shots on the dvd for the Toonami openings. Funimation also ****ed up and used this intro music for the dub with japanese music option for some reason.

Also, the lyrics you're seeing for the closing is for the japanese audio.

Come on Funimation, it’s so simple. We know you have the footage from the level sets, you release two of them and were about to release a third one before you cancelled the whole thing, we saw the Krillin cover. You were on the right track. Just release what you have at least onto the steelbooks and then replace the rest with anniversary footage if you have to. I don’t care if one episode cuts out halfway and finishes with worse quality. At least put out what you have and then we can decide not to buy the later sets lol. I only managed to buy the first level before you canned it, so just put out what you got. At this rate we’ll never get 4K Dragonball lol. Or even Blu-ray OG Dragonball. Oh and while you’re at it, at least put out the movies in 4K, since they were at least shown in theaters and could fit the 4K format, at least the older ones anyway. If Akira and Ghost in the Shell can, the so can Dragonball. And the Super:Broly was shown in IMAX so that definitely could and should’ve had a 4K release. Whoever runs Funimation needs to get their act together, they could make real money, but instead they nickel and dime everything. Dragonball Z is the most popular and well known anime property in the world, I don’t know why you’re so worried about recouping costs and not making a profit. People are only turned off because you’ve burned them before.

You could do a Gofundme if you have to to gage interest like Shenmue 3 did before it got made.
