I hope the house bought the Atmos some dinner beforehand

San Andreas, Earthquake, ID4, Day After Tomorrow, Towering Inferno, The Poseidon Adventure, The Core, Deep Impact, Armageddon, Volcano, and that's just off the top of my head.

My main problem with 2012 is that it's so bloody preachy, Woody Harrelson and his hemp trousers can **** right off

Awesome news. I do prefer The Core and Armageddon but quite happy Sony is releasing this one as I voted for it too

Good disaster films, but there's something about 2012 that covers all bases so effectively imo.

The Day After Tomorrow is the only one from Emmerich that I was honestly disappointed with.

Haven’t seen either. But you’re saying it’s more preachy than Day After Tomorrow?

I'm honestly a pretty big fan of The Day After Tomorrow myself. Saw it for the first time at a pretty young age so it's stuck with me. Wouldn't mind a 4K of that at all, actually...

2012 was just popcorn fun even with the scientific slant that all disaster films have.

To me, TDAT skimped out on the "disaster" that makes those films so entertaining to watch.

Makes me wonder how that Chinese exclusive 3D version fared in cinemas.

Aye, i'm not really a fan*. I 'member getting this free with my first blu-ray player along with five other movies in one of them 'shitshow' bundles. It turns out that even free was too high a price and it was sold soon after. Love me some big, dumb fun, but there are so many more betterer, dumb-fun-ier movies, I can't imagine reaching to pull 2012 off my shelf again.

*But before y'all go pelting me with bricks, know that i'm still 100% behind whatever 4K UHD release the studios decide to bestow upon us, even if it's not for me. Rock on, you crazy cats.

I was never expecting 2012 to come to 4K UHD Blu-ray. I hope it comes to the UK on 4K UHD Blu-ray soon.

Pretty much Phil's reply, Gaci: it's the big dumb fun part that it falls down on, it takes itself way too seriously and at 158 minutes it's a bit of a slog. Not that long disaster movies are automatically disqualified, I didn't say that, but this movie stretched out over that running time made it feel like a chore the last time I watched it (IIRC I got it as part of one those bundles that Phil mentioned too, I worked in a shop that sold BD players so there was the occasional 'free' copy floating around).

I'd probably still buy it for a tenner just to give it a rewatch on 4K, but I fear even that might be too much to pay for it.

I would add The Wave and The Quake to that list. Killer Atmos mixes in both of them also.
