Still, there's nothing exactly *wrong* with it...I just don't get much from it.
I think it's a movie that you had to aged between about 6-14 when it came out to truly appreciate it. Along with parents that also enjoyed it and put it on a couple times a year at Christmas. Christmas is Home Alone and Christmas Vacation, they are just part of Christmas.

The Captive (2014) 1/2

Found in Tenny80 collection.

Eight years after the abduction of Cass there is some indication that she may still be alive. Of note here is Ryan Reynolds who gave an outstanding performance as the girls father. I've always enjoyed Atom Egoyan's films and this is no exception but it does have some problems. Not all characters are fleshed out. Some of the characters left me wondering regarding their involvement in this child sex trafficking ring. The story flips back and forth in time which left me confused in a couple instances. I did like this story even though the subject matter is uncomfortable to watch.

I didn't even know that I owned that lol. I've done a 4-5 deals of 20-40 blurays in bulk recently and acquired about 150 new movies in the last month. These deals are a great way to up my movie count, but i'm at the point now that I need to stop buying movies so I can watch the ones i've got.

Christmas with a view 5 / 10

Not sure what it was about this movie but it was actually pretty decent. Kaitlyn Leeb is gorgeous, maybe that's what it was haha. It's not my kinda movie so I still only gave it a 5, but it was MUCH better then the "Knight before Christmas" I watched a couple days ago

Balto | 1995 | dir. Simon Wells | ½

I had never heard the story of Balto before. I had no idea the Iditarod was based on the same relay of medicine portrayed in the movie. The movie is typically cheery for an animated movie for kids, but it's pretty heartbreaking to read what happened to the actual Balto afterward. People suck. Anyway, watching this has me wanting to watch Togo now as well. Thanks for the recommendation, staryeyes!

Oh bummer, sorry if you didn't enjoy this one much. This can certainly be a bit obnoxious and goofy if you didn't grow up watching it.

When I was a kid, this was a movie I wanted to watch all the time but my parents never bought a copy. If I ever ran across a tape or saw it on TV, my eyes were glued to it the whole time. Didn't revisit it until the Blu-Ray hit, but I think it's been ingrained in my nostalgia bone now.

If you try out any more, I hope they'll resonate better.

Yeah, I think kind of like Tenny was talking about Home Alone, it helps to have grown up with it. As a kid, I loved Who Framed Roger Rabbit and was scared af of the judge. Watching it recently, Roger himself is cringy at times and his voice can be a little grating in concert with his over-the-top personality, but it definitely hits me right in the nostalgia as well.

I had watched it previously, remember going to the drive
In with my Dad to see it as a kid. Maybe I just had my hopes set to high but it just wasn’t as good as I had remembered

From filmbuffTX's collection. It was also one of last month's recommendations I didn't get around to. It's not the kind of movie I usually enjoy, but the narration and thematic parallels make this a pretty interesting watch.

Default Directors in other Director's Movies (John Huston + Peter Bogdanovich)

The Other Side of the Wind | 2018 | dir. Orson Welles |

The same mockumentary style as F for Fake with a lot of the same kind of very quick cuts of people interrupting or adding to another person's interview. There's not much of a plot to speak of. Interesting but not exactly entertaining. Bogdanovich and Huston are both pretty good actors in their own right but I would have been better off watching Huston in Chinatown again.
