Aren't the Deadpool films shot digitally, though?

Yes, but it will be the first R-Rated MCU film meaning Feige is willing compromise to some degree.

Probably because he grew up in both Chicago and London, so he has a bit of both accents. When he speaks louder he sounds more American, for whatever reason. When he speaks lower, he sounds more British. His brother has a full on American accent, though.

The more I think about this...the more I think he might be a good pick to bring the X-Men branch of Marvel into the MCU. I would love to see his take on that.

I would love to see his straight adaption of Barry Windsor Smith's Weapon X to Kick off a proper X-men universe

Sure, but it shows flexibility that they are letting that be part of the cinematic universe. And where does any “digital mandate” talk come from, I’ve heard no evidence of that, whereas I had previously heard (and posted an article with evidence for it) that the filmmakers considered 35mm for Black Panther and only decided against it due to their own budget/impact analysis.

Edit: and indeed the opening sections of Doctor Strange were shot on film

Using large format doesn’t always equate to sharpness, though.

‘WandaVision’ used the Alexa LF for its “traditional” action scenes, and there were plenty of soft shots that really didn’t take advantage of that camera’s sensor size.

Marvel, for whatever reason, really doesn’t seem to value the quality of their cinematography compared to more established/inventive blockbusters.

That’s not a knock, it’s just an honest assessment.

Yes, digital cameras are cheaper and easier to use. That's why Marvel uses them. I still like 35mm better, though.

Feige might just let Nolan do his thing on film as Iron Man was shot on 35mm I think, they've DMR'd to hell to look like the rest of the films but you never know.
And Chloe Zhao shot Eternals on film with her camera crew from The Rider and Nomadland.

Raimi is said to have his signature camera moves in Doctor Strange 2.

Yeah, I don't see this happening. Even if it's a long shot it has to be the longest of long shots lol

Thumbs down

A non-story from a know-nothing site. If Nolan were to jump into any big franchise (and that's a big if), it would be Bond.

There are over 70 years of Marvel material and some of it can be played straight with real-world implications. Like Damage Control, a cleanup team that has to deal with the fall out of superhero collateral damage.

There are characters that lend themselves to non-linear storytelling like Kang the Conqueror.

I don't see Nolan directing an MCU movie but if he wanted to there is a ton of characters to use and I'm sure Nolan would have it written into his contract that he would have creative freedom as long as it doesn't break anything in the MCU.

Neil Gaiman had it written into his contract that no one could use Sandman after he had finished his run.

I was responding to CyberDeunk saying “Marvel uses mostly 2k cameras.” I didn’t say anything about the sharpness.

I think She shot a little bit with film. Not the whole movie. The cinematographer for Eternals is Ben Davis. She brought along her usual cinematographer, Joshua James Richards. He is camera operator.

Still the point is, they used some film on it, Doctor Strange used some film (with same cinematographer, guess it’s his artistic preference), Black Panther was nearly shot completely on film, all the early ones through Thor were shot on film. There is no evidence I’ve heard for some kind of digital mandate, merely that most of the movies are shot digitally because that’s now the common movie making format.

I don’t necessarily believe Nolan would make a Marvel movie, but if he did, he would definitely be allowed to shoot on film.

I think if Nolan made a Marvel movie Feige would tell him what he can't do and then let him do what he wants. Cooglar and Taika were allowed to do what they wanted. Edgar Wright caught Marvel at the wrong time.

Reminds me of the genie scene in Aladdin, three rules you can't break but other than that, you got it.

Not even Feige was allowed to do what he wanted until relatively recently.
