Just picked up the Vincent Price Collection recently. I think I'll be moving Witchfinder General up the queue. Also VIY since it literally landed on the porch since my last post. We also have The White Reindeer and haven't cracked it yet. Is that folk horror?

We did also love the Ritual. We planned to see The Night House last weekend but the schedule is so packed these days.

Another anecdote... I once had that Anchor Bay Wicker Man wooden box. Sold it before I ever watched jt! We saw the Nic Cage remake in theaters and hated it so much I couldn't ever find the urge to throw it on. That was nearly 15 years ago though. I've come to appreciate 70s [and older] film much more over the years.

Yes it is, I wouldn't call it excellent though.

I feel the same way... I haven't been this excited for a Severin release since... well... Blood On Satan's Claw ironically!

Pretty bummed there was no pay in 4 option for some reason... But I went through a huge gothic horror phase last fall, so I put in an order and I'm looking forward to going through a huge folk horror phase this winter.

I will say though, since there always has to be at least one person to complain about the artwork... I can't be the only one that thinks the cover of this looks like something you'd buy at Hot Topic circa 2003, right?

I agree. Not impressed with the box art of the poster at this early stage. I might grow on me though. I don't want to discredit the effort they put into it...

There have been a few terrific responses to your post, so adding my two cents, sometime in early December I'll set the mood for this set by beginning with two films by Carl Dreyer, the first Vampyr (1932; Criterion US), which is a foundational and highly influential horror film that I describe as a supernatural folk dream turned nightmare, followed by Day Of Wrath (1943; BFI UK), a slow burn of religion, morality and sexual repression, deftly wrapped in a cloak of 16th century folklore and related witchcraft.

The deliberate pace of DoW provides plenty of time to ruminate on interpretation (some conclude a parable of fascism and wartime collaboration), however it only requires one scene to appreciate the smoldering screen presence of actress Lisbeth Movin and the cinematic power of her ‘pure and clear’ eyes, foreshadowing Anna Taylor-Joy in The Witch.

Like many others, and with time permitting, I'll also revisit The 70s Folk Horror TrinityWicker Man, Witchfinder General and Satan's Claw, before diving into the set and hopefully discovering a few new favorites.

It seems to have been disabled some time after the sale, as I used it for one of my biggest orders during that weekend. Not sure removing that option was Severin's decision, PayPal's decision, or just some glitch. I would have used it today had it been available, but just went ahead and bit the bullet.

If only I hadn’t made that $120 DiabolikDVD order a couple of weeks ago, I would have felt comfortable using my PayPal Credit option here but it just be that way sometimes. Hopefully they reinstate or fix it or this set lasts until about this time October.

IIRC, the Adamson set hung around a while, and the Milligan one definitely did. This one probably has more mass appeal / current curiosity factor than either of those sets, but I'd still be surprised if they ran through 4000 copies of such a pricey item before Halloween.

It would probably be a good idea to keep an eye on their social feeds though. If they start blowing through the non-bundle copies, they'll likely give a heads up.

Damn—there is some crazy stuff in this. Eyes of Fire is the big draw for a lot of people I think, hence the standalone release, but there's some other curios in here that I either have never heard of, or have heard of and not seen. I've had both Eyes of Fire and Alison's Birthday on my "to-be-watched" list for a long time now; I am also extremely intrigued by Lake of the Dead, which looks fantastic—I am tempted just for those three titles alone. That being said, the others I am only semi-interested in, which makes me hesitant to order this.

I do agree with some of the comments about the cover art for the set. It reminds me of the artwork to a supernatural-themed youth novel series or something.

I am on the fence about this—if I knew that Lake of the Dead and Alison's Birthday were getting standalone releases, I'd skip it, but I somehow doubt that will happen, so... we'll see. There is so much cool stuff coming out this fall that I have to pick and choose what I am willing to drop cash on.

VIY does sorta seem like a wasted space here—between the standalone, the slipcover, and the overseas MOC edition, it feels like a title that has sorta been exhausted.

Maybe they just had 19 titles they could get lined up, and were like “screw it, make it an even 20 and add Viy…”

I've learned my lesson on dragging my feet on these Severin boxsets. I own a couple of these movies already but it's still worth it at that price. Will definitely preorder.

I'm surprised Blood on Satan's Claw is not included. I'm glad I won't have to buy that movie a third time, but kinda bummed out for everyone who missed out on Severin's release. That movie is one of the best this genre has to offer.

You're right. I just said screw it and placed a pre-order. Given the breadth of content and films, it is a good deal. I thought about getting the Eyes of Fire alone, but for some of the other titles I mentioned above (Alison's Birthday, Lake of the Dead), this could be the only chance to get them on Blu-ray, and I don't want to take my chances—especially considering most of these titles have never seen release in disc format before.

While Leptirica already had a Blu-ray release in Germany (shockingly still available) https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Lepti...lu-ray/206340/, i am glad its getting a wider release. Fascinating film that I hope more people can appreciate.

Such a weird coincidence that I pulled out my Eyes Of Fire LaserDisc earlier today and was dreaming of having at minimum, a widescreen DVD of it. So happy this is happening!

I hope that's not the case. I'm interested in this set but did NOT like that movie much at all. It was such a bore to me.
