I love the cover art. Part of me wants to skip for an inevitable Japanese 4k or the possibility Arrow gets to do it. Who knows with the way Kadokawa works.

It’s my favorite Japanese horror film, so I’ll definitely be picking it up. I’ll keep the Eureka release for some of its extras, though.

I’m surprised Arrow didn’t get to this first.

Criterion has had this before Arrow was even releasing Blu-rays in the US. Just took them them a long time to release it.

There are three months between July and October and one or two of the "Pink Flamingos" bonuses weren't confirmed until close to release. Perhaps they're still negotiating the rights/subtitling it.

Someone remind me what a candle has to do with this one again?

It's not a candle, it's the flame from a lighter.

Hmm, then now I wonder why Criterion didn’t get to Pulse first before Arrow did.

Supposedly Kadokawa didn't want to do a remaster and so Criterion passed on it. Arrow still deemed what was available for release doable (which it was) but a new master would totally be the bee's knees.

My money is on Arrow releasing Cure in the UK tho. Fingers crossed for UHD.

No idea why some users are acting like Arrow is going to be releasing this in the UK when the Eureka blu is still in-print.

Hol on there cowpoke, gettin a little ahead of urself. Obviously the Eureka release is in print; no one's speculating a new UK release to coincide with Criterion's. There's at least a year or two left. Also of note; UHD rights were probably not apart of that deal. If Kadokawa actually licensed the format to Arrow we could see a release sooner. Potential Silence of The Lambs situation. Worst case scenario they're holding firm and won't bevy out the license till a Japanese one is in the cards. The word valid is popular these days, it applies here.

Never seen this but I'm so on Board Kairo is one hell of a movie.

ugg that's sad about the company not wanting to do a remaster and Criterion passing on Kairo, what a shame

I have Arrow's release of Kairo and while its perfectly serviceable I definitely think it could use a remaster, though I'm not sure how much of its video issues are baked into the source. The FX shots were noticeably softer than the rest of the film so I can't imagine a new scan fixing that.

Wondering if I should hold on to my copy of Eureka's Cure, which I just bought a few months ago and hadn't opened yet. Any exclusives that didn't migrate to Criterion's release?

Dang, if only the Criterion was 4K release! I will pick it up regardless and retire the Eureka one. This is a great film.

Hopefully the scan on the Criterion Channel isn't representative of the coming Bluray, it's pretty rough.

That's not the 4K restored version.

I was able to watch an hour of this last night before it got too late. It looks so much better than the HVE DVD that it actually stunned me. The film is still holding up as well, and can't wait to finish it tonight.

Finished watching this last night. Overall a great ride. I forgot how insane and quick the last ten minutes are. For a movie that moved a very methodical pace, I'm surprised how much happens in the last ten minutes and almost feels like a different move for a second. Glad to finally have this on Blu-ray.
