It's just very confusing to me that you praise the down to earthiness of Snyder but simultaneously want a fantastic Penguin.

The only "supernatural" Penguin was in Batman Returns (with his physical self and his ability to control penguins). I've never considered the character supernatural.

It's difficult to see what's in store for us from a two minute clip but from those two minutes it looks pretty sweet imo. The less they show the better.

Moving Batman from Comic and Animation into Live action has resulted in either being too silly or too serious. From bat shark repellent to where we are now.

Yeah, Penguin was never really one of the more fantastical villains (except in Returns). He's one of the most street-level Rogues, especially in recent years where he's basically just a mob boss with a gimmick. Aside from being in the Reevesverse, which is grounded to begin with, the only way I can really see this having any fantastical elements is if they bring in another villain, but it seems like Penguin's villains will just be other mob members. I'm keeping my expectations and hopes low- I'm kinda just expecting a watered down Batman meets Sopranos, and that's fine with me. At the very least, it being HBO and it being in the Reevesverse means there can be at least some violence, language, and gore, which I think will help keep it from feeling too cheesy.

I am definitely in for this one. Looks great, and as a comics fan, I’m actually relieved that they didn’t go for all of the character’s fantastical bits. He’s much more dangerous this way, IMHO.

Speaking of content, what’s in HBO’s pipeline for the next 18 months?

Casey Bloys: One of the advantages that I think we have as a company, putting aside HBO for a second, is all the Warner Bros. IP. So after “House of the Dragon,” the next big tentpole series that we have coming up will be the “Penguin” with Colin Farrell. That is coming out of Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” and it’s fantastic. Just like “Peacemaker” came out of James Gunn’s “Suicide Squad,” it’s a really good example of what you can do. That’ll be in September.

I hope this gets a Blu-ray release like True Detective, or even better a 4K box set like Game of Thrones. It looks like HBO isn’t opposed to doing that because of all the other releases (even House of the Dragon got one)

It better get a Blu-Ray release but its sadly a MAX show. MAX didnt even release the excellent mini series Love & Death with Olsen and Plemons.

Well, hopefully the fandom will go all
on Warner until they release it, but I won’t count on it. Also, Max doesn’t work in my area.

Peacemaker, Titans and Doom Patrol are Max series that have gotten blu-ray releases. I don’t see why Penguin won’t get released on blu-ray.

It's going to be called an "HBO original", but it will also stream on Max (look at poster above)
