Looks like this may have been delayed. Amazon now shows the release date as March 29th instead of March 22nd.

This is excellent news and shows the value of Universal's commitment here.

I can only hope they will get to The Rockford Files and release all the feature length episodes and pilot in their original broadcast form. I refuse to get the Mill Creek version for that reason.

I am very glad you love it and it works for you.

To me, its compromised. Most of the feature length episodes are in their 2 part syndication versions, including the pilot.

The value, for me, of having TV shows on blu ray is seeing them as close to their original transmission form as possible.

That is why seeing Universal go back and release the cross over episodes in their original transmission form gives me hope.

I also hope we get to see Murder She Wrote and Simon and Simon sets too in the future.

It's a tv show, it's really semantics at play. Something may air as a tv movie, but come on, the long term goal was syndication where two part episodes aired individually.

It's baked in.

To each their own. As I said earlier, I am very happy that you are happy with what you have. I mean that.

Thanks for the heads-up on the early review. Happy to hear positive findings! Though I am a little disappointed that the packaging is not 8 individual cases for each season (not a fan of bulky, multi-season cases), but I do like the artwork and understand what they tried to do with the murals and imagery.

It's a shame about the two crossover episodes not being included, but we did expect this. The reviewer only mentioned the Murder She Wrote episode not being included, but I can then assume the Simon & Simon episode is also omitted. So we are left with the two stand-alone episodes that wrap up each individual story.

It's interesting to hear Mill Creek included the two Rockford Files episodes (in lower quality than the actual BD set ) with Tom Selleck's character, Lance White. I guess it was easy for them to drop these in since they already have licensing for Rockford.

If you are planning to buy the Elephant Film (France) zone-free releases of Magnum PI on bluray, be aware that from season 3 or 4 forward, the original credits in English are replaced by the French credits (over the opening theme where MAGNUM, PI becomes "Magnum", as well as for the opening titles at the beginning of every episode, in French), which I personally find very annoying. It was a surprise because Elephant has a reputation to be very faithful to the original film. But in this case, they have been very shy from asking Universal to provide the proper versions.

The Jeannie problems are not easily placed at the feet of Mill Creek.
Plus, given the $40 asking price for I Dream of Jeannie and the $120 price this is going for, you'll notice lower quality masters tend to have a lower retail price.
Nobody really knows what happened with Jeannie, but I think the problems start with the masters they were sent by Sony. All of that is speculation, though.

I am having a BLAST with Magnum P.I. in HD and I think Universal's masters look really solid. Much better than Sony's Jeannie. But then again, they have 30 discs to breathe!

Universal did the heavy lifting on this and MC just got to release it. The lack of a release for years was apparently tied to the CBS Magnum reboot and the decision to pull the show from circulation for some time was made to give the reboot time to breathe and be it's own thing. The HD masters go back to the Universal HD network and the DVD releases of the show and the supplementary material is stuff that was piled up over the last twenty years, as new things were added to the pile.

I applaud the fact that MC has included eng subtitles (unlike in knight rider and miami vice), hopefully its a sign from now on to always include eng subtitles, for some of us its a deal breaker if a release doesnt have eng subs (reasons being: poor hearing, english not your native language, or you want to watch it late at night at a low volume, or like in my case, a bit of the three)

So this is an incomplete set? They didn't include or finish the two crossover episodes with Murder She Wrote and Simon and Simon? This one of my favorite shows, but that is deal breaker for us. Universal should have released it themselves or been decent enough to include those with Mill Creeks license. We'll hold onto the DVD, unless the price goes low enough that it's just too tempting not to get it. We won't be rewatching the series for a few years at least anyway, and don't exactly trust Mill Creek's competence in the replication department anymore. Be sure to test your discs for scratches that cause skipping.

It's my understanding that Universal's agreement with MC is basically whatever MC wants to release, from a list of stuff that Universal has had HD masters for since the DVD/Universal HD days, and whatever Universal deigns to give them, because they don't want to release it themselves. The fact that Universal also didn't bother to release Knight Rider, Airwolf, Miami Vice, Quantum Leap, or The A-Team themselves - while crapping out so many other releases that nobody wanted or asked for - really says a lot about what the priorities of the Universal Home Entertainment division are and they aren't doing things the way they should have done.

not for $190 (amazon uk). reviews not terrible from mill creek release. not the greatest, but serviceable. For this particular item, that is all I need. The DVD set is so blurry that I stopped watching. So I am very much looking forward to this. You can get for $90 (after 10% coupon-you need to wait until released to use. preorders excluded) at deepdiscount.com. That is the cheapest I have found thus far.

130 hour commitment for a long-running show like this. Even a typical 90-120 minute movie I'm often getting tired and having to break up into two nights worth of watching now. But I have kind of wanted to watch more episodes of this show considering it was a tad before my time and I saw very little of it over the years.
