"THAT IS ONE BIG PILE OF SH#T"
JP1 will FOREVER be an absolute beloved classic for me, not only one of the greatest JP films, but one of the greatest films ever made. TLW is good, not brilliant or awe inspiring, but good and fun. I even enjoyed JPIII for it's action sequences and the focus on a straight forward story, though it feels a bit simplistic at times (but that's fine). It was a good little chapter in the Jurassic series to get to another film. Then I saw JW and although it has some decent spots and isn't a mess, there's something deeply lacking about the characters and execution. The opening of the egg hatch was, whatever. Bryce Dallas racing in the car back and forth while making calls felt odd, when she's running in heals and the velociraptor nods at the end were almost comical. But it was fun enough to ignore some of that like I did with JPIII ("ALAN!"). Then JW:FK, where the opening scene was amazing and closer to true JP. The first part was okay and fun on the island, and it started to go south when the poachers were revealed and I realized it was a bad remake of JW, but okay, fine. JW was a remake in a way as well. Then they started with the action of dinosaurs (which was some kind of a bargain auction or something because they weren't selling for much) and the clone plot with the kid, then it only escalated into the peak moment of horror in that film "I had to. They're like me." I almost laughed at that. I felt like the director did an amazing job with garbage writing. His visual language was right on tone, but the plot and characters were typical Trevorrow. I can still watch this film, especially in 4K or 3D! and enjoy enough though. Then I saw The Battle of Big Rock, and that "Preview" and was really impressed. I thought that with a new writer, they took a new direction for Dominion. Universal and Trevorrow did an excellent job at one thing, Bait and Switch. They showed us a short film and preview that was some of the best JP, and they delivered the absolute worst JP film. Starting with a news report (that only reminded me of Josstice League's) and after an hour of a poorly written Fast and Furious/Mission Impossible/Bourne wanna be with little to no dinosaurs....but they had those Locusts. And when the dinosaurs do show up, they are background to the plot...in a film called Jurassic World. I guess the Locusts are the true Jurassic creature. It feels like with each film, the quality has gotten a bit worse. Even the 3D was a bait and switch and non-existent, and if Trevorrow's name is anywhere near another film, I wouldn't make the same mistakes again by watching it. In the best line of this film "Jurassic World? Not a fan". I'm definitely never buying a bluray or spending another dollar on this. So glad they sold the separate 4k blurays for each film. |

From 1993? Not anymore. Google/Bing comes up with nothing about the aspect ratio being chosen. Maybe Geoff has a cinematography article? But the 2.35 storyboards were on the LaserDisc The Making of Jurassic Park which was on a bonus disc of the DVD set of JP I-III.

It's interesting, I had a polar opposite opinion of the picture quality. I thought this was one of the dullest and least impressive Dolby Vision theatrical grades I've ever seen. I kept on looking up at the projector to see if the twin beams of light was there, it looked like an SDR projection to me. Blacks were middling grays, colors were flat, even prime high contrast scenes like the forest fire lacked pop. I can't quite account for my vastly different impression.

If this is the complete list, the lack of deleted scenes could be a good sign. Could point to an extended cut being more likely. |
