Fair enough. I hadn't seen anything regarding Liberty Valance being limited or anything like that.

10,000 copies is a fairly large amount, I could see it lasting a while if it was indeed that number. But then, I've been surprised before. The Indicator release of Night of the Demon for example; they upped the limited edition to 10,000 copies because demand was so high, and it still sold out quickly. Night of the Demon is comparatively less well-known than The War of the Worlds, but on the other hand UHD is a more niche format...

I was bummed when Criterion mastered WOTW in 4K but only put it out as a blu , but it is excellent.
I will wait for all the reviews before buying although I want WWC too

Warners skip so many anniversaries for their big classics now, it makes me disappoint.

WB is supposed to drop a ton of 4K remasters for their 100th Anniversary, so there's a good chance that FP will be in that pile.

I don't think Forbidden Planet will be on their list for 4K release. Maybe Criterion but somewhat doubtful about that as well.

I'd say Criterion is very good bet considering they released it on laserdisc.

$100 says in a few years they drop When Worlds Collide on 4K. I’m still buying this set anyway though.

I don’t think Warner Bros. even has a system. Between the movies they release, the movies they don’t, the ones where features get added, the ones where features get deleted, no OG audio, lossy OG audio, rarely lossless OG audio, sometimes a crappy DD 2.0 fold-down pretending to be the original mix (we’re looking at you, A Clockwork Orange), so many anniversaries skipped, and so many titles dropped that, while welcome, few were asking for. I too had Forbidden Planet pegged for the 65th anniversary, and it now seems that the only thing that got pegged was me. 70th perhaps, in 2026? Either that or Criterion could do it.

I do still wish WAC would get fully into 4K releases though. There were rumors of them doing GWTW, so maybe if that panned out and it was a success they would do more catalog 4Ks.

Why are so many now saying that When Worlds Collide is just blu-ray, because Amazon said so? Target listing states (LE 4K/BLU-RAY/DIITAL) and (4K/UHD). Target's listing does show a blu-ray as being included, but, also seems to state a second 4K disc, suggesting 2 4K disc included. Where has it been confirmed that WWC is simply blu-ray. Can't wait for the official announcement, and just hope until then that both movies are in 4K. Don't understand why they would include a blu-ray of When Worlds Collide in a 4K release of War of the Worlds. Since this is the first release of WWC in the USA on blu, why wouldn't they release it separately.

I didn't even notice until now but the Amazon description even confirms it's a Paramount Presents release.

Quote:
Two of the most iconic Science Fiction epics come to Paramount Presents in this out-of-this-world limited-edition double feature from producer George Pal. Making its 4K UHD debut, WAR OF THE WORLDS is an Oscar winning adaptation of the chilling H.G. Wells novel. Then, get ready for impending disaster, when a runaway star signals the destruction of Earth in WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE, included on Blu-ray remastered from the original film elements. Both are essential Technicolor masterpieces from the Golden Age of Hollywood, delivering eye-popping visual effects and unmatched sound design.

I have to confess I'm getting a little tired of movies getting awesome remastered blu-rays then getting 4K releases less than two years later, after I already bought the blu.

I don't even have a 4K setup yet so I'm probably just gonna get the Imprint When Worlds Collide disc and be fine for now, or at least till I go 4K. If the reviews for this Paramount release are stellar I might pick it up later. I'd need to hold onto the Criterion WOTW for now because Paramount usually doesn't include standard blus with their 4Ks, and the Paramount probably won't have all the supplements the Criterion has anyway.

Nobody mind me though, I'm just peeved this release is extremely inconvenient for my very specific circumstances.

I've had the Criterion Blu-Ray on my list to get for ages, but I've held off because of the streaming 4K version online. I figured it would be only a matter of time before it gets the disc treatment. Getting When Worlds Collide is a bonus because I've never seen it before.

Hate to say this but I actually prefer When World's Collide over WOTW, wish that was 4k (ducks and runs). When World's Collide kind of reminds me of a B movie 2012 if they only focused on getting the ship built. I get great satisfaction at the end when
[Show spoiler]the ahole that funded the whole thing gets left behind
.

When Worlds Collide on just blu-ray is nothing to sneeze at. I've enjoyed the Aussie good if not perfect release and Paramount's will be cleaned up and improved more if past is any guide.

Isn't the release date supposed to show September 27th, not the 22nd?

Im good without a "cleanup" if it resembles Paramounts latest release of To Catch A Thief.

I love this film. As a 50s film, it still is quite frightening. The scene with the parson walking towards the ships is chilling even by today’s standards.

On another note, as 4k releases have revved up over the last couple of years, I am now hesitant to buy any 1080p blu ray - every time questioning if it will soon get a 4K release
