It may still end up at that price. I've had a few pre-orders with Amazon that were listed incorrectly, Once they corrected it the price went up but with the low price guarantee my order was still the original listing price.

No idea what the issue is with HOTD as I haven't seen any of it, waiting to pick up the 4K set. With the Season 8 episode of Game of Thrones, the major problem was with banding on streaming and TV broadcast versions. The physical release looks way better, even the DVD, in that regard.

I think a lot of people suffered from compression artifacts during that episode (I know I did), making things harder to properly see. This would've been before today's higher bitrate 4K/HDR streams. Disc definitely would've cleaned up the image with a much higher bitrate.

I think that episode is super bold, beautifully shot and graded. I had a feeling it was day for night/twilight. For those who aren't aware, Fabian Wagner (he he, who shot another very dark GoT episode that pissed people off) was apparently tearing his hair out trying to match shots due to the weather, so they decided to do it day for night.
But once again, considering many average joes don't pay attention to the way their TVs are set up, it's bound to really suffer on poorly set up TVs. |

That said, the difference is - Battle of Winterfell was painstakingly shot for months on end at night and the lighting decisions truly were creative choices - for better or worse. (Again, in hindsight, it looks spectacular on UHD in DV, but considering that the vast majority of consumers watched it without, and streaming quality no less, one could argue either way if it was a good idea or not). The House of the Dragon scenes, on the other hand, were shot day for night (we know this as there are stills of them shooting it in broad daylight) and it just looks like...a poor day for night conversion. Like other effects in this show, it was better done on GoT, which I find surprising - because that's the one thing I figured we could count on being equal. From boat scenes, to exterior establishing shots - they just don't seem to be putting the effort in that GoT did to make the effects convincing, and HoD so far really just looks like "every other fantasy show" to me. |

Same. Something about it feels more like a painting, I don't really know how to explain it. I think GoT looked gorgeous, but I rarely felt like it portrayed the world of ice and fire properly, even small things like Winterfell's muddy ground.

Odd that the only thing that marks it as being Season 1 is the little number on the spine. Also, they're going back to doing 4K+Blu after dropping the standard blu-rays on the 4K complete set and all the individual 4K season releases?

It’s no fault of the HDR, it’s people with improperly calibrated displays. It looks perfectly fine.
