He doesn't have gray hair in any of his other recent movies, pretty sure that's just the makeup for his character

Not feeling it. The Next Karate Kid is not a bad flick, but still felt pretty superfluous and unnecessary. And Chan's a legend, but he's done some phenomenally mediocre movies in recent years, so one has to wonder whether his career is basically grasping at straws at this point. Which is another way of saying that I care absolutely nothing about a character such as Han when it comes to the Karate Kid franchise. He's basically stepping into the Miyagi role here, except he's not Miyagi. But somehow he knows Miyagi, or is aware of him? It just feels like a cynical way to bring these 2 universes together and I'd much rather have seen a final theatrical movie as a climax to the Cobra Kai series. Although I'm not even sure of that anymore as the final minutes of episode 10 in the final season were arguably the series' absolute low point.

This is nuts. 15 years thinking the 2010 movie was just a solid remake.... nope. It is now a part of the classic Canon, and it totally works. Count me in. Also, 4K the 2010 movie already Sony.... maybe even the Hilary Swank one too cuz, why not? They're all one big family now.

Exactly. This bait/switch actually gives the "remake" more weight. This kind of reminds me of the first Creed movie a bit. Looks great honestly.

This takes place three years after the ending of CK, so we will likely have no idea about where they might be, until we see the ending of CK. In fact, there probably won't be any deliberate or direct references to CK, apart from some dialogue in passing, that vaguely proclaims that the show and this film are in the same continuity.

I know it doesn’t matter and you know work is work but I find it kinda sad that Ralph’s career has been playing this ONE character for decades now at this point lol

The movies, the Netflix show and now this. Its one thing to be KNOWN for playing a certain iconic character but to keep PLAYING it hah

Do you think he's sick of Daniel?

The first, third, and fourth were all set stateside, while the previously-known "remake" took place in China. So this new film could be an interesting mix of the two approaches, in both theme and style. Time will tell...

He said during a sit-down on The View that he did go through a phase in his career, where he really wanted to distance himself from that role. But it was after becoming a father and watching his kids grow up, he started to have a new appreciation for it (I also think Pat Morita's passing probably gave him a different perspective as well).

I would imagine that from an actors point of view, he would see the character of Daniel (and the Karate Kid franchise) as the gift that keeps on giving.

Aside from this franchise, The Outsiders, and My Cousin Vinny, he's kept things pretty low-key overall. Most of his work has either been in television or smaller films - about half his projects on Wikipedia aren't even linked to IMDB.

Is saw the trailer today for the first time and it looks great. I love that it looks like it is part of the TV show but is its own story with a new kid. The action looks great. Cant wait for this.

Seeing Jackie look so old makes me feel .....old.

Surprised they're bringing in Jackie Chan from the reboot, AND Ralph Macchio from the first one.

I haven't seen Cobra Kai but I would hope they bring in those characters too if possible. The villains from the first film.

This is the first time I remember seeing Jackie Chan with grayed hair as he almost always has dark brown hair.

I wish they had Cobra Kai characters in this as well. Tie everything together.

I don't think he's that great of an actor, but he plays La Russo well. And he's hardly built like an action hero or leading man material. If he had been the next hot thing, Hollywood would have jumped on it but they didn't. Now, maybe they did and he didn't want it but I don't buy that. Certainly not in a business where everyone seems hell bent on (over)extending their stay in the spotlights. (even Day-Lewis is coming back).

Without La Russo, I think his film career would be over. He's probably quite grateful to have at least this.
