I guess for me, I am skittish whenever I hear about an iconic, longstanding character being "updated". Characters and movies for that matter are a product of their time. However they were setup back in the beginning is pretty much how they should stay. Sure, they can grow and evolve a bit but there seems to be a push to overly-modernize everything and every character. But yes - assumptions dont help here. I get it. ![]() While my 007 Bond comments/description and a suggestion for a new character called 008 were sort of tongue-in-cheek, they DO have merit. Bond is Bond. Everything I said about 007 is pretty accurate. I just prefer they keep him mostly as is or just do a new agent with more "2022" sensibilities or whatever. ![]() |

I though that was why the films worked, it didnt change Bond into some idealised "nice" hero but rather allowed him to play up that ultra masuline anti hero who has some emotional depth to him. |

I'll wait and see who they pick as the new Bond. Mission Impossible probably has surpassed Bond but for old timers Bond's name still holds some magic which is why I will continue to watch a new film. |

That is what I was trying to tell Dunemoon and s2Mikey, that we don't have enough Intel from Eon to have any kind of concern yet. I'm not worried about it, never was...

Like I said, remember all that media gossip and headlines about NTTD replacing Bond as 007? Fans up in arms, turned out to be fan-baiting and that only in context to the story of THAT film did a reassigned 007 status happen. Lynch didn't become the franchise 007. So take what people say with a grain of salt. Media is always about manipulation.

I believe EON will continue to devalue Fleming’s creation. But I’m not the audience anymore. They need to convince shiftless Gen Z customer’s to buy a ticket. But they only care about virtue signalling on social media. The potential saving grace is the ten year commitment. That might ensure a traditional actor is hired. It would be a huge financial risk otherwise. |
