I bet Pierce is fed up with being asked about it.

It has been 20 years since the last time Pierce played Bond. Why would he care anymore lol.

Dalton is not doing any press tours and Craig probably ignores it. Pierce is the only one left to ask.

I get it, entertainment industries are acting funny these days, even shady... but go in with Intel, not feelings. Right now we haven't been given enough to be mad or happy about.
Cant argue here at all, Jess. As usual - good post.

I guess for me, I am skittish whenever I hear about an iconic, longstanding character being "updated". Characters and movies for that matter are a product of their time. However they were setup back in the beginning is pretty much how they should stay. Sure, they can grow and evolve a bit but there seems to be a push to overly-modernize everything and every character. But yes - assumptions dont help here. I get it.

While my 007 Bond comments/description and a suggestion for a new character called 008 were sort of tongue-in-cheek, they DO have merit. Bond is Bond. Everything I said about 007 is pretty accurate. I just prefer they keep him mostly as is or just do a new agent with more "2022" sensibilities or whatever.

What's to reason? It's a regurgitated complaint that's been around for decades. Thanks for thinking I'm Gen Z though, very flattered to be thought of as a youngin'.

Times change? Fine, then make a new character called 008 that is sensitive, does therapy at least once a week, likes homely overweight chicks, and drives a Prius.
Was Craig's Bond not masculine though? I'd argue he's THE most masculine Bond we've ever seen, much less of the suave spy and much more of the brutal assassin.

I though that was why the films worked, it didnt change Bond into some idealised "nice" hero but rather allowed him to play up that ultra masuline anti hero who has some emotional depth to him.

I thought the first one was excellent and loved the final fourth Craig film No Time To Die.

I'll wait and see who they pick as the new Bond.

Mission Impossible probably has surpassed Bond but for old timers Bond's name still holds some magic which is why I will continue to watch a new film.

He's had arcs where he went dark consumed by Vengeance, but other times he stood for justice in honor of his parents without use of malevolence and fear... either way, the core of his character doesn't change, just the aesthetic. You don't change WHAT he is, only HOW he goes about it. Know what I mean, Vern?
If that is the case, you got nothing to worry about with Bond. Core wise, Bond hasn't changed.

That is what I was trying to tell Dunemoon and s2Mikey, that we don't have enough Intel from Eon to have any kind of concern yet. I'm not worried about it, never was...

Barbara is going on about a new, sensitive Bond evolving. As if the Craig era wasn’t one long exercise in torture, lack of confidence, quitting after failing assignments, sulking and depression.

Gen Z’s might like to see themselves on screen. Most don’t.

Like I said, remember all that media gossip and headlines about NTTD replacing Bond as 007? Fans up in arms, turned out to be fan-baiting and that only in context to the story of THAT film did a reassigned 007 status happen. Lynch didn't become the franchise 007. So take what people say with a grain of salt. Media is always about manipulation.

You are optimistic.

I believe EON will continue to devalue Fleming’s creation. But I’m not the audience anymore. They need to convince shiftless Gen Z customer’s to buy a ticket. But they only care about virtue signalling on social media.

The potential saving grace is the ten year commitment. That might ensure a traditional actor is hired. It would be a huge financial risk otherwise.
