As soon as someone can verify the OG audio, it would be appreciated. I know reviews aren't that reliable on these things.
Skimmed the video, seems solid. Last edited by Brian81; 09-21-2023 at 11:42 PM. |

I hear ya mane. If this film wasn't hard wired into my dna I might exercise greater caution on the 4k purchase. Some movies are just so joined at the hip to me that there's no if about an upgrade. Hell or high water IT WILL BE BOUGHT. AND CONSUMED. As it stands it will be my third dip on blu ray- not including dvd and vhs incarnations. When the Moose gets it here tomorrow I'll strap on my movie goggles(trendy chemical amusement aid) and take it for a spin. Like you say though Kinos last version of this was damn good, so I'm not expecting a quantum leap in quality. I just have no choice about certain films. THEY MUST BE POSSESSED IN THE HIGHEST QUALITY VERSION AVAILABLE TO HUMANKIND!!

It’s amazing to me that we’re getting UHDs of this, Play Misty For Me and Two Mules For Sister Sara before the Dirty Harrys.

Warners are dragging their feet with the Dirty Harry series. In fact they’re sitting on a huge catalogue of 70’s titles that haven’t even made it to BD yet, and probably may never. Very frustrating but at least we have these Universal titles via Kino to enjoy.

Having listened to a podcast with Feltenstein earlier in the year, he alluded Dirty Harry will be coming, but not this year as had been rumored elsewhere.

Hello y'all. Here's my non expert take on Kino's UHD presentation of this-to me- iconic film. What this version does well it does really well. As usual there is a mix of very visually accurate, sharp, resolute shots and some that are on the soft side. As with all these old flicks nothing new there. Daytime outdoor scenes seemed to be the winner here with vibrant color, pleasing grain and an overall quite filmic appearance. Occasionally a little grainy like during the opening titles. I guess I expect that out of title shots on old films. What jumped out at me was the accurate and robust but not overblown Dolby Vision color rendering. It seemed quite vibrant and pleasing to my eye. Not a Gargantuan upgrade over the BD but an upgrade nonetheless.Action shots looked great-nothing negative to report there. I call the film a pleasing upgrade to the Blu-ray. It is the best it's ever looked and probably will remain so. On the down side there are some soft shots to be sure. Not a dealbreaker for me. Goes with the territory, older flicks blah blah blah. A few scenes where skintones especially facials seemed a little red. It's funny how tan/sunburnt Clint appears when he is popping his shoulder back into joint. As an aside it's also funny how Clint goes from Slick-50 greaserag hair while at the altar preaching to blowdried red carpet Clint in the space of a 100 yard dash in a wheat field. Aliens may have abducted his hair briefly. And I liked the sign at the gas station advertising Worms/maggots. For some reason hadn't noticed that before. The worst looking shot I think is the one in the pool hall. At least the beginning of it appears to be out of focus. Maybe the film elements are in rough shape in that scene me no know. But all the imperfections aside we all know old film has its limitations. The films strengths to me are story, character, plot, dialog, acting, cinematography, editing, music etc. We're talking about a movie from the early/mid 1970s here. And 70s film was a big part of those times. The studios were marketing radical chic, likeable anti-heroes, criminal capers etc. Citizens were starting to admire and live vicariously through citizen criminals on screen. Why remain loyal and honest to the fatcats and the system when they are beyond totally corrupt. And loyalty meant a law abiding blue collar trip to the Nam- for what? Not much, besides the GI priced to sell Thai stick. Might as well shed the Uncle Sam shit and save your calories for that big score. There was a strong current of that thinking amongst the populace in 1970s America. I'm not saying it was morally right but still in fact it was reality here for many. I'll leave most of the reality talk unsaid except to say it should be patently obvious whats been goin on here since Wilson gave away the keys to the kingdom in 1913. America been a proxy ever since. Oh by the way I listened to the 2.0 version of the audio and it sounded accurate to what I'm used to hearing from this film. And I love the music. Country music- but country music in a good way. Sure takes me back. Let me know what y'all think.
