Wow, this release completely flew under my radar. I regreted not picking up the director’s cut he was selling direct but this is vastly superior. All 35mm, different score, 14 more minutes, and it’s a pressed disc

I act like I'm fine but deep down inside I just want a proper bluray of DOWN TWISTED.

From what I’ve seen so far, Albert Pyun is a unique and remarkably passionate and interesting filmmaker, with much more talent than he’s given credit for. I’d like to see any other director get the same mileage out of the budgets he had. Last edited by WaverBoy; 08-24-2025 at 06:47 PM. |

Just watched Down Twisted for the first time tonight. Very entertaining and likably goofy neo-noir/adventure, with an appealing and very game cast, excellent cinematography, intoxicating ‘80s aesthetic, bangin’ soundtrack, and that distinctively peculiar Pyunishness all over the script and direction, which is all exactly what I wanted. Loved it. A shame it’s not on Blu, or even DVD fer chrissakes. Although, watching it on craptastic VHS was kinda cool for nostalgia purposes, and Media were kind enough to throw on trashy trailers for Ministry of Justice, Ferocious Female Freedom Fighters, and Rabid Grannies. Oh, those hazy days of video yore.

I just watched the original version of Arcade a couple nights ago (first time watch of the film in any incarnation), courtesy of the VHS screener rip on archive.org, and I loved it. This has the goofy quirkiness, appealing cast, nutty dialogue, low-rent-but-enjoyable special effects, and budget-exceeding ambition I appreciate about Albert’s work. Sucks that the original version will apparently remain imprisoned in a badly done extremely low-rez VHS rip (if I ever get my hands on a copy of the screener I’ll do a proper rip and upload a larger file), but I’ll probably still pick up the Blu for the extras, and it will be interesting to see the rejiggered version with the re-edits, different takes, and replacement CGI and music score. Also, on the way to me are the MVD Blu-rays of Blast, Mean Guns, and Crazy Six, as well as the Columbia Tri-Star VHS of Deceit. Yes, I have a problem.

Dammit, this box has more films, but the Full Moon Fright Box Vol. 1 has more extra features for the included films, like audio commentaries. I’d be picking up either set mainly for Dollman. What to do…

My latest adventure in the Pyuniverse…
![]() DECEIT (1990) was, incredibly, shot by Albert in three days during forced reshoots for CYBORG (1989) in the same locations, at a cost of $22,000; a classic Roger Corman move. It’s basically a filmed stage play, and a really fascinating and oddly feminist one, with David Mamet-ish dialogue, in which two sex-obsessed alien agents named Bailey and Brick (Norbert Weisser and Scott Paulin) come to Earth in order to destroy it because it’s contaminating the galaxy with pollution. They inhabit the bodies of two recently deceased Earthlings, and before they get down to business, they try and get down to OTHER business by kidnapping a gorgeous babe named Eve (Samantha Phillips) and proceed to try and get in her panties before they blow up Earth and head off to the next offending polluter planet; this proves to be waaaaaaay more difficult than they could have possibly imagined. The title is absolutely apt, as you will discover. This is a film that only Albert could have made; absolute insanity, and definitely not for all tastes, but I had a great time with it. Both this and DOWN TWISTED desperately deserve to be rescued from VHS purgatory; until that happens, I made DVD-Rs of them and slipped them into my Blu-ray cases of CYBORG and DANGEROUSLY CLOSE, respectively. Nice little unofficial extras. Last edited by WaverBoy; 08-17-2025 at 04:09 PM. |

Yep I’ll take that one too. Another one still imprisoned in VHS purgatory, although it apparently hit DVD in France, but I think that release is French-dubbed only with no English track — can anyone confirm? Looks like there’s a decent quality YouTube upload which I’m guessing was ripped from the French DVD, with an English track which I’m guessing was ripped from the VHS.
