Received mine today. Came in a new style 4K case I haven't seen before. It was also free of all that residue that's been so common.

I have the Shout release but never opened it, lol. I haven’t decided what to do with it, but merging them is not a bad idea. Just got my shipping notice from Target. Hope to have it by the weekend.

Really annoyed that Paramount does this. ![]() So I guess I need to buy the Shout Factory version too, and put them in a 2-disc 4K case. I stocked up on a whole box of those from a supplier *because* of crap like this (and also ecoboxes, yuck) |

Just when I thought Paramount couldn’t get worse. This is one of the worst discs when it comes to encoding. There’s so many moments that are hovering around Dvd level bit rates of 6-7 mbps. Everything falls apart. Even when it’s hitting 60-70 mbps it’s still pretty bad with pulsing grain.
Paramount needs to get their shit together Last edited by captainjoe; 03-15-2023 at 04:06 AM. |

![]() Now I'm nervous what kind of treatment Paramount will give to "Red Eye" "Star Trek VII-X" and "Deep Impact." ![]() |

Wouldn’t say it looks better than the Shout! disc, and the Shout! disc does seem to include special features. So, so far I’d recommend the Shout! over this one. Unless it starts looking considerably better I can’t recommend it over the Shout! version. At least with that one the compression is a little better (so far) and the special features are included. wow Paramount seems to be releasing one shitty release after another. They are not helping physical media with these releases, they are hurting it

If I could I would trade them with you. I love the new cases. They are clean unlike the "Elite" ones and hopefully replace all the ones used. Also why do you want artwork to flot inside those?

I agree - watched this in full last night and at times i thought i was watching a standard blu-ray - did not wow me at all even when i set my tv to "vivid" mode - was this scrubbed of grain too ? very disappointing - i really hope its not the same for Deep Impact - i will keep my open matte version of that just in case... waste of £20 to be honest and i still have the standard blu-ray which i will keep with the 4k version of the Core...

The 4K banner at the top has 2 lines that are raised so that it's not a totally flat case. The edge is slightly more squared and it's a bit richer Black. The only movies I have close to it are The Patriot and Life, but they are slightly different than those.

It's sad that we get releases like this. You hear about a new release, you get excited, you pre-order, and then you get disappointed. Yes, I know the 'that's why I wait for reviews' crowd is laughing, but even if you don't pre-order it's a disappointment that a movie you've waited/longed for is final being released and it turns out to be crap. Paramount seems to be one of the biggest disappointments with their 4K releases. It's a mixed bag and you never know what they are going to pull out.

How you manage to make a release worse from the shout blu ray and yet here we are. I don’t even know what to say anymore.
Seems like Sony is the overall leader of the pack of studios with the most consistency of their quality and at least trying. Not the only studio but certainly the top. I gotta go pop in the Robocop UHD and get me out of this slump Paramount keeps trying to put us in….. |
