Got my German 4K today from Plaion.
I can report right off the bat after a brief look that this is not the same disc as the Carlotta. BD-66, German, Italian and English audio presented here in 2.0 PCM. I spot-checked in Dolby Vision and it is not the same grade as the Carlotta either. Plaion therefore conducted their own grading and it has been done to match the Severin US. There aren't even hints of yellow / "teal" left. I'd say it strikes the perfect balance between the rather pale Severin and the colorful Carlotta. I have a feeling that this was the intention. Plaion nailed it in that regard. That means for all fans of a natural-looking grade like the Severin with the bonus of excellent encoding, this release will be for you. I personally have hoped for the saturated grading of the Carlotta as a mean of emphasizing Argento's stylizations with the camera. That's why I'll have to get this release too (sigh) but this German release is without a doubt an excellent presentation which serves the film well. Hope you enjoy. |

Does the German one come with Italian or English master? Or something else entirely, i.e. German? (don't know if there is such a thing)
Other than the title, you can check 00:59:43 (just looked up the timestamp from my "casa di cura per malattie mentalie" sign cap) |

And thank God for that. I can only reiterate how happy that makes me. There’s not much worse than localized titles. Plaion makes great decisions when it comes to their releases. |

What are the full specs of this release? I hope to see some comparison screenshots with the Severin release one day.

My apologies, I've ben AWOL for a while.
Q1 - is there any difference in the cuts between the 2 UHDs? Q2 - Am I right in saying the Carlotta is English audio, but no English subs? Cheers. |

And @CompleteCount was so kind to post the English subs for some Italian only dialogue here (it's really only a couple of lines). (the German one has no English subs either of course) |

Any difference I’d need to know about between the French and German releases? |

What I noticed only now btw. (after taking a look at my BD-Info scan (see my LSP link above) and caps' scan of the German one): The video bitrate is exactly the same incl. the DV MEL, so video is not only basically the same, it's obviously literally the same encode. What I also noticed only now is the French one using DTS-HD MA while the German one uses LPCM (both lossless and most likely the same otherwise as well). I'd say go with the cheaper French one unless you need German audio or subs. The German BD is also faulty (can't remember what it was exactly) and there's a replacement program IIRC. |

Dalia's death has to be one of the greatest shots that I've ever seen.
Nina completely going full psycho, and the switch to Italian from English during her monologue at the end... I'd rank this number one out of the animal trilogy. Watching it a second time, and the pieces really start to come together. |
