I never change my setup between discs so there really shouldn't be any issue. I played another UHD right after and had no problems with it. Could just be a faulty disc? I posted here to see if anyone else was having the same bother in case it was a faulty batch... but it seems not. |

Definately not a branching issue. The video plays fine, it's just the audio that's borked... unless I only ever want to listen to the commentary. |

I tested my disc and it seems to playback okay. Audio is good, very clear.
I should, at a bare minimum, do a quick check on every disc in my library, just to make sure that the audio playback of every disc is okay, so that I can return/replace if found defective. Last edited by lateralspin; 06-26-2024 at 08:39 AM. |

If you had a bad disc, it wouldn't present like this. The video would be affected to.
It's likely a compatibility gremlin. |

Have you tried changing the audio settings? Maybe it’s the TV not liking if it’s a bitstream. The disc is DTS-HD MA so try switching between pcm, bitstream, etc. No you shouldn’t have to but if a workaround allows you to play the disc why not? |

OK, so I forced my player to output PCM and the audio now works.
Thanks to oddbox for the suggestion. ![]() |

Glad you got to the bottom of it. What audio output setting was it on before? If "bitstream" was on, then that means your TV can not accept the codec used for the 2 soundtracks, which is why you heard noise instead.

The audio on this title is encoded as DTS HD Master Audio. Some TVs removed the decoder for this format (as a cost cutting measure?).
If your TV doesn't support that codec, you might end up with no sound. Fortunately, all BD players have to support at least the lossy DTS core (a handful of early ones only support that part), and all ones on the market today support the Master Audio lossless part. So in that case, as you've found, setting your player output mode to PCM (which means the player will be doing the audio decoding, not the TV) will sidestep the lack of audio support in the TV. Ate there english SDH subs for the english audio on the 88 Films or only for the italian track? For both cuts so to speak.
I understand the VS to have english subs for both tracks. Are there anything major that sets the releases apart otherwise? |
