Not to mention it would give viewers their Hogwarts fix without trying to shoe-horn it into the Fantastic Beasts movies like they did with the last two. My only guess is that either WB doesn't think it'll be commercially successful or more likely JKR said no. I'm guessing the latter since she didn't actually write the story for the game so it's not actually her own work.

I'm not entirely sure that WBs will be that bothered by that.
The initial numbers alone suggest that the supposed backlash against anything Potter just isn't there, not on the ground. It's already raised in excess of $1b of revenue, and that's before the game launches on the XB1, PS4 and Switch. Seems interest in Potter is still there. The dropoff suggests that the game might not live up to the hype! Or it's not a particularly long game... ![]() |

It's a single player only game. I'm sure many, like myself, have already beaten the game. There's no multiplayer component to keep people playing after they finish the main story unless they want to grind achievements. I had just shy of 80 hours in the game when I finished it.

Yay, this is something I'd hoped would happen. I feel like it's a done deal after Hogwarts Legacy's success.
Hopefully they get a decent cast, but I think the miniseries for His Dark Materials and even Game of Thrones (aside from the ending when they didn't have a book to follow) were pretty good, so I'm not worried. I've always thought this would work as a mini-series. I hated how fast-paced the films were; the story beats will be better with time to breathe. It's a shame because the film series generally had a perfect cast all-around (other than Gambon as Dumbledore). |

It's a single-player narrative game. You play through, do the quests, complete the story, done - though people can go back and play again and/or do stuff you missed the first time. Of course people aren't streaming it as much, because they've played it - and unlike a multi-player game where each match is different, how many people are going to watch stream after stream of the same game and the same story? Financially, it's not supposed to be some "live service" game or supported by microtransactions, etc. It's an old-school, you pay the $70 entrance fee, experience the game. WB doesn't care if you play for 30 minutes or 300 hours - they get the same $70. And they have made a billion bucks already. That said, what's staggering is - as someone pointed out above - it hasn't even released on XB1, PS4, or Switch yet. That's a huge audience of casual gamers that can't even buy it yet - in fact, the very ones a game like this is really aiming for (especially the Switch audience). It comes out just in time for summer vacation on those platforms, and will sell through the holiday season, I'm sure. This was just round one. By the end of the year, this will likely be in the top 50 sellers - of all time. In a relatively short window, too. As it relates to this show - again, there is absolutely no coincidence here that they are announcing this now. The game really couldn't have been more of a massive success, and proved that Harry Potter is still a brand to be reckoned with, in spite of the online chatter. |

The important point for WBs though will be that it’ll get a fair shake of the stick. I’m sure there’ll be plenty of noise from certain quarters but as the game has proven, enough of the people who this will be aimed at will give it a chance. Then it’s down to the merits of its writing and production, how it should be. |

Wait... is this series intended to adapt Rowling's existing HP novels all over again?
As in... a series remake of the 8 recent feature films with new actors in all the roles? What's the f**king point in doing that?? ![]() |

I’m hoping it’s a case where high profile actors actively tell the media they wouldn’t audition/turned it down because they don’t want to be seen supporting the franchise.

I'm very proud of the young cast and how the majority of them made it very clear that they don't condone any forms of bigotry. I'm sure that's an additional factor as to why WB is being forced to reboot because they know there's no chance of the original cast reprising their roles.

I welcome a new adaption. There's a magic to the story that the movies failed to capture imo. |
