I think it's about time that the wheat gets separated from the chaff. I only hope this is a chance for the awful writers to get ejected we might see some quality again.

AI Video is already a thing. At the moment the technology is like looking at a fever dream but so did Midjourney images only 6 months ago and now they look real.

International Film & TV Unions React To WGA Strike

Quote:
International unions representing film and TV writers across the world have begun sharing their responses to Hollywood’s first writers strike in 15 years, as WGA members gear up to hit the picket lines.

Thousands of WGA members are set to walk picket lines across Los Angeles, New York and other major U.S. cities Tuesday afternoon after the WGA announced that it was unable to reach a last-minute deal with the Association of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) on a new three-year contract to replace the one that expired Monday night.

In a statement to Deadline, Giorgio Glaviano, President of the Writers Guild of Italy, said the union has “followed the negotiations of our American colleagues with great trepidation.”

“We express our solidarity with colleagues at the WGA, because their struggles are ours too,” Glaviano said. “All over the world, the figure of the screenwriter is threatened by ever tighter wages and increasingly vexatious working conditions.”

Glaviano backed the WGA’s concerns around the use of Artificial Intelligence, writing that the technology risks making the work of writers “more and more a struggle for survival.” During negotiations with AMPTP, the WGA sought regulation around the use of AI on MBA-covered projects. In response, the studios tabled the introduction of annual meetings “to discuss advancements in technology.”

By writers going on strike they are ensuring they don't get any more work, because studios would rather go with the option that saves them more money and gives them less hassle in the long run than to waste money on people who don't appreciate it.

Pretty soon strikes won't matter, you will simply be replaced with something that is deemed more efficient and gives less problems.

On the bright side this might lead to more novels/books being written/published (since I suppose writers will have to fall back on this leading to a surge of literary content) and then subsequently adaptations of these works might be made into a movie if it does well in the book world.

I think that is also were some of the problems where writing comes in.
All writing styles are different. Writing prose is not the same as a novel. A novel is not the same as a movie, a movie is not the same as a comic, a comic is not the same a a video game. They are all different disciplines and you need time to understand each.

I have edited some writers who came from novels. It took time to teach them how to write a comic script.

The amount of people in this thread who just don't care about the creative people who write the beloved movies and TV shows that this forum wouldn't exist without is staggering to me

Best to ignore them.
The funny part is the devaluing of creatives is why there is a strike.

Writers Guild of Canada Tells Members to Not Cross Picket Line During WGA Strike
"If you are a dual member of the WGC and the WGA and you reside in the U.S., WGA strike rules apply," the guild added, as many Canadian screenwriters work both sides of the border.

Gonna agree here. Maybe its time to dump outdated unions and let the cream of the crop do their thing and get paid? Im sure a bunch of those writers could be let go and no one would notice or care. C'mon.

A great writer or someone who is great at anything in life will get paid and be in demand. Period.
