Looking up this director online, she mainly does TV shows and made for TV movies. So I'm definitely expecting this Freaky Friday sequel to just get dumped onto Disney+.

Maybe, her last two films were theatrical: Late Night and The High Note.

I feel like a theatrical release could be up to how much Jamie wants/pushes for it (if she even cares about that) and whether the studio is confident/trusts her as a draw + how the actual movie ends up looking like. However I don't think most people expected a theatrical release for this, especially after things like the Enchanted sequel were Disney+ exclusives so we'll see. I'm just happy it's happening!

Yeah me too, Freaky Friday is 1 of my favourite comedies ever and I still adore Lindsay.

Yeah Lindsay Lohan being back at Disney is quite something / full circle moment, I sure remember a lot of people for years saying how it'd never be possible. Herbie turns 20 next year already! I hope this (re)opens some doors for her to do other stuff with them too!

I mean, if something like that Mean Girls reboot can get into theatres.

Also JLC is kind of riding high since her Oscar win, and correct me but hasn’t done a straight to streaming movie yet, I think they may try to get this in theatres. It probably will do just as well as the MG reboot with the right budget.

The director shared a casting call on her Instagram story which is for the 14 year old daughter of Lindsay's character (which is a bit odd by itself I wasn't expecting teens to be in this) and even if the described premise is not the main story it's kinda giving TV/streaming movie... I really hope Jamie and Lindsay are the ones switching again as it's obvious they're the draw/what people want to see. I noticed the writer changed since the last time the sequel was announced last year so maybe Disney/someone wanted whatever is now coming instead?

Edit: they actually let you read a few script pages, could be an interesting concept after all! hopefully they find some talented young actresses though

Not sure what she means with "the day that we are OFFICIALLY making FREAKY FRIDAY 2 at @disneystudios" surely they haven't started filming yet so maybe they've just officially signed on yesterday? And I wonder if Jodie might make a cameo since they're so close, that'd be fantastic

why are the trades still insisting everyone is "in talks" when Jamie herself has already stated she and Lindsay were officially doing it on that IG post shared above? lol and why's Disney taking forever to comment/confirm stuff?

also Julia's casting is kinda funny because she played a character that was (clearly imo) based on Jodie Foster in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Tarantino was a big fan of this version of Freaky Friday too
