It’s so fun that for one generation; Antonio will be Puss In Boots. For the older generation, he will always be our Zorro & El Mariachi

I knew him as Zorro first. But when I saw him recently in Dial of Destiny, all I heard was Puss in boots.

And let's not forget about his (great) role in Assassins which became a meme.

So that's why they didn't want to include the standard BD in the package. I can't say that I'm thankful to Sony for saving me some money, but I've been buying too much lately anyway.

It was a little surprising that there's no mention of Dolby Vision in the writeup. I presume that means it's HDR10 only?

Looks like the transfer is as dull as the movie itself. LOL

I thought it looked a bit weak by Sony standards, but still nice filmic picture. I increased the brightness a tad which helped some. Definitely not a dazzler with HDR.

I heard it looks soft and mushy with weak contrast because it was shot that way but I am unsure.

If you were to do a side by side with Mask, I am sure many would say the differences are night and day.

I wonder if they made it a MOD release because they knew it wasn’t up to standard? Definitely strange. Even my Sony player (X800M2) doesn’t recognize what the disc is. Where it usually says the title, it’s blank.

I'm going through my collection to see what I want to keep and what to get rid of and this was on the pile. I was surprised by how much I liked the movie. It's not a masterpiece by any means, but I saw this when I was a kid in theaters, this was my second time and still liked it a lot! I don't really compare it to the first and compared to all the adventure movies that come out today it's way better!

Disappointed. Though looking at the screenshots the reviewer posted, I didn’t think it looked as bad as described, but those are just a few samples. I might pick it up as the price drops. It’s not the greatest movie, but it is watchable IMO (I may be biased as I’m a Zorro fan as well ).

I hope that we are going to see UHD of the movie at some point. The blu-ray looks great and Im sure that the UHD version would be even better!

Having watched the 4K DV stream on iTunes, I would tend to agree with the reviewer. The whole thing looks as if they shot through sun glass filter taking out the brightness and APL. The differences between this and Mask are stark. I am unsure if it's due to the filming style or Sony just didn't put their HDR sauce on this

It's clear that the reviewer didn't like the color timing which obviously affected the score. But he's upfront that he doesn't know what it's supposed to look like either.

Quote:
I'd chalk most of the disappointment up to the digital intermediate source, problematic color timing, or the fault of the original cinematography, especially since I don't have a reliable way to determine how close to the filmmakers' intentions the 4K image has landed. But it's difficult to accept any of these possibilities.
