I prefer them over Crystal Dynamics magnetic auto-jump without control (
[Show spoiler] )https://i.imgur.com/IksISy5.mp4 Also yeah, AAA should have better games again. https://i.imgur.com/tnC7pcZ.mp4 (1997 - that's just the very first level of Tomb Raider 2, Crystal Dynamics so called 'gameplay' is hours into the so called game) I'm sick of games being dumbed down for game "journalists" I read tons of comments, who tried the "modern" controls, then figured out that they suck, you can't even do certain moves that you can do with the Core controls and that the game controls way worse with them, which uh makes sense because the levels are grid based, perfectly for the Core controls, where you are actually in full control, see: https://i.imgur.com/pPeW1SQ.mp4 Calling these controls bad is factually incorrect. When people say that, I have to assume that they are just bad at controlling games and want them to play themselves like "modern" AAA games. It's similar to complaints about MGS2+MGS3 controls. What I also read is complaints about "the camera", which is funny, because those have to be players with "modern" controls enabled, who control Lara relative to the camera. Which then shows that Core controls are in fact meant to be like that. They didn't do these because they just didn't know better (also see RE4), they did these because they wanted a dynamic camera, and controlling a character in such case is only properly possible using controls relative to the character itself, which are all grouped together into "tank controls", which is just silly. Lara never controlled like a tank. Last edited by jimidini; 02-18-2024 at 10:59 PM. |

Nobody would ever be okay with magnetic jumping in a Super Mario game. But in cinematic games where the platforms need to look more perilous than they really are and the interactive cutscene is not supposed to be ruined it's just accepted as a matter of course. Wish someone would just steal the Tomb Raider concept, design it for a more limited audience again with a smaller budget and call it something else.

Just reached Opera House in TR2. My biggest bug bear with these remasters is the lighting which can be aggressively dark at times. I keep having to switch to original graphics just to see what I'm doing. Aside from that and some bugs, I'm a happy bunny. Really looking forward to revisiting TR3 which is my favourite

I think there was even a concept at Crystal Dynamics for an actual survival game ("survival"?), but it was scraped. Instead they made a bad copy of an Uncharted game, which is a very bad copy of the original Core Tomb Raider. Core Tomb Raider was primarily about exploration and platforming. Of course you can't have these anymore, so they went with a chest-high wall 3rd person shooter sigh. And then that turned Lara Croft into a literal mass murderer with nothing else going on. ![]() Just imagine a Tomb Raider like in a way like Breath of the Wild world. That could be very awesome. Or maybe someone just make ports of the 3D Indiana Jones games. The first 2 were quite nice. And include Fate of Atlantis as a bonus. And improve the controls and make them exactly like Core Tomb Raider. Last edited by jimidini; 02-21-2024 at 11:04 PM. |

I'm not sure how I would handle lighting in the deeper caverns and tombs. Look at how they messed up the remastered graphics. ![]() Maybe just have sconces/torches on the walls, lit magically without the player having to activate them. Or we could imply that the stone guardians, walking skeletons, walking armor sets or whatever that she occasionally encounters light them. Glowing plants. The occasional hole in the ceiling, but obviously not possible in every tomb. Occasionally you could have a pitch black area like in Dark Souls, I guess. Sigh **** Limited Run. This is also ridiculous. It's Tomb Raider. It's as main stream as it can be. These should be getting regular retail releases, which they will probably ship afterwards like for the Star Wars games. |

Sorry for being slightly off-topic, but my Japanese Tomb Raider Underworld soundtrack just arrived. It took me years to find it. It was only available in Japan, and you couldn't even purchase it. 500 of these were given out based on a questionaire, and that's it.
[Show spoiler] [Show spoiler] [Show spoiler] The text is slightly embossed. Soundtrack on pressed CD is available nowhere else. The Collector's Edition in the West only had DVD-Audio on a DVD, or maybe it was even WAVE files on that DVD, I don't know exactly, but it wasn't an Audio CD. Which physical release is everyone getting? I got the PS5 digital upon release so ordered Xbox One and Switch versions. I feel a bit foolish for paying the same price for two downgraded versions when the physical superior PS5 version is selling for the same price. But since I got the digital copy I would feel weird for buying another copy on the same console.

Physical retail Collector's Edition released today, and I got mine.
Fantastic release. Cart is up-to-date. But they just had to insert a flyer about Crystal Dynamic's woke Laurence Craft, shrug. Last edited by jimidini; 10-18-2024 at 03:09 PM. |
