I remember T2 was such a massive Event movie, but I dearly loved The Abyss, even the theatrical cut which I saw three times at the cinema, and so many times on VHS that I lost count. This was BEFORE the DC fixed everything, and back then DCs were rare and unusual. We ain't seeing those days again.
To be fair, the Avatar films are huge technical achievements, no doubt. There's few directors capable of overseeing such films. But I'd love to see Cameron make a 2001 or Interstellar, a sci fi that SAYS something new and bold and provoking. The Avatars are comfort food. In my humble opinion. |

The real question is whether this will include the documentary "Under Pressure: Making The Abyss". It's harrowing and he doesn't come across very warmly. |

T1 showed what he’s capable of ALIENS -showed what he could do with a bigger budget The Abyss - right up there with ALIENS. T2 - great sequel, but I don’t think his best. Still one of the best action/sci-if movies ever made. True Lies - I say this is Cameron’s most fun film. There’s no message about A.I. No message about humanity’s nature (none of these are bad btw). It’s just a fun action/comedy with great performances by Arnie, Jamie Lee Curtis and Tom Arnold |

Everybody knows T2 is Cameron's true masterpiece. The Abyss may be his second but the original Terminator would be a tie. Abyss is just budgeted like a million times bigger.
I hope DNR won't become an issue. Still, nothing can put a damper on this for me. I'll consider my collection complete after this is "in the can". Or, as complete as it'll probably ever get ![]() *I have the grey market True Lies BD so I'm not as anxious for a legit release as I used to be for this one |

Are there many people who love "Aliens"/"T2" and love "Avatar" and love "Titanic"?

An HD master of the theatrical cut has existed for some time, completed around 2009/10 by Lowrey/Reliance from a 4k scan of the OCN. All that talk of it coming to home video was barred by Cameron's schedules between 5 Avatar sequels and later felt he wanted to redo it and the SE cut in 4k.
However, with the SAG strikes holding up most of Hollywood and Avatar sequels production delayed until further notice, it looks like Cameron will actually take the time to approve them and somebody will finally get these out. After all, he recently approved the Titanic 4k HDR that was in the pipeline for many years following Avatar 2 and is now coming in December. |

Cameron is my fave director so any news on a 4K release is very exciting to me - I see a lot of love here for T2 but I think in his canon of movies it’s overrated- I can’t stand Edward furlong in it - he ruins most of the scenes - Linda and Arnold are great in it - it’s just a shame it’s so poorly represented on home video - I only watched the SC release once and never revisited it again - my rankings of his movies are ;
1 avatar 2 aliens 3 titanic 4 the abyss 5 the terminator 6 T2 7 true lies and 8 AWOW |
