I think the first couple books are challenging enough to film, God Emperor is so out there man.

If part two does well enough for Messiah, I wonder if they will call it Messiah or just part three since Denis is kind of treating it like a trilogy?
In the last few months I have read Sisterhood, Mentats, and Navigators. This series was excellent IMHO. I started The Duke of Caladan recently and am liking it, too.

God Emperor is nuts, which is why I hope it gets made. It also kind of concludes the story. The story line in the final two books was never finished (and I don’t count the books not written by Frank).

God Emperor is a 400 page long political treatise told by a man-worm hybrid with some assassination plot stuff thrown in to make it a bit spicier.

I desperately want a $250 million adaptation of it.

I think I read Heretics before in high school, but I can't remember any of it. I actually started it again a few days ago. I don't hate it, but I am only 15% of the way in.

I could leave this earth happy if there were a $250 million God Emperor.

Sisterhood didn't grab me right away, but the next two did. I've generally enjoyed all the other Dune books even though they're admittedly not as good as the originals.

But I like seeing more of that universe so I keep buying them.

They’re still well written for sure and no one will ever match Frank for the Dune universe anyway.

I see God Emperor as a Golden Path pay-off for dedicated fans. A slow, methodical read, the most quotable Dune book with lots of philosophical ponderings to savor, large expanses of time to imagine, and a healthy dose of Duncan Idaho to expose the Emperor's foibles and stand in defiance of hubris.

I really don't see anyone other than such fans wanting to sit in a theater for 3 hours of that, much less paying $250 million to make it.

Dune Messiah, on the other hand, is doable.

Chris

I kind of enjoyed some of them (including the post-Chapterhouse sequels), but they are a pale imitation of the real thing even at their best. But they really only count as IP-farming fanfiction.

I kinda wish they would open up the universe to other authors cause I would like to see stories set way, way back before the Butlerian Jihad, like when the AI and robots were still under human control and what caused all this problem to happen.

Heck, I even dreamed about one once, if I had any skill at all I'd try writing it.

But to stay on topic, since I only bought part 1 on Blu to get the Walmart exclusive, I'm definitely looking forward to a combo 4K pack of the two parts in one.

If it's exclusive, it will be WalMart, they seem to have taken up that mantle from BestBuy.

Other upcoming WB SteelBooks are available on GRUV, so it might show up there.

It's my favorite book of the series and the cowards will never adapt it.

It brings to conclusion everything set forth in the first book beautifully.

why wouldn't they adapt "God Emperor"...

I haven't read the books so I don't know what it's about.
It is low on action and high on dialogue. The main character, Paul´s son, is a giant worm/slug. He inspired Jabba the Hut. It is not a boring book but I imagine it would make a boring movie. The plot is rather plodding. It´s been awhile since I read it but I think it ponders the history of the universe and especially the nature of man. Now I always thought book 5, Heretics of Dune, would make the best movie: lots of action / adventure and strange/cool characters (one antagonist group uses sex as a weapon - they are so good at it, anyone will do their bidding). The plot is fairly fast moving (as fast as can be expected in the Duniverse) and interesting.
