Like so many others, I think 1, 2, and Reunion are equally awesome. Wedding just doesn't have the same mojo as the other three and the absence of some of the cast (Tara Reid, Mena Suvari, Chris Klein) really hurt the film. I think the plot centering around the "wedding" was a bit disappointing/boring in contrast to the high school, college, and reunion plots of the other three films. A wedding atmosphere just isn't as fun for comedy flicks of this caliber.
Still, I like all of the American Pie films. Even the DTV sequels, Band Camp, The Naked Mile, Beta House, and The Book of Love. (Band Camp and The Naked Mile are the best of those.) The only one I've avoided and never seen is the newest one, Girls' Rules. I have no interest in ever seeing or owning that one. It's the tame PG-13 American Pie with no nudity. Even Eugene Levy isn't a part of the cast which tells you all you need to know. |

I kinda see American Pie on a similar level to the Police Academy films. The first one or two are excellent to very good, then the sequels get progressively contrived. However all of the ones I’ve seen have always been enjoyable (just like Police Academy).

Always liked Reunion, never bothered watching the terrible looking spin offs.

Saw this one in a packed cinema. Everyone in the crowd loved it. Have seen it a couple of times over the years since. Will be great to revisit in 4K UHD.

Same. Reunion is actually my second favorite because I related to it a lot. I’m pretty much the same generation as the characters (They’re class of 1999, I’m 2000), so the first movie is like a high school time capsule for me. Then Reunion I really enjoyed because it was about getting older and the pressures of being an adult and the direction in life you’re going. I like the other two movies but the first and fourth have more meaning for me.

I've never watched any of the American Pie films. Is this one worth a blind buy?

The compression is great; it’s other errors (coloring, framing on a couple releases) that you have to watch out for. But, if there are any issues, 88 has been top notch at getting them fixed and sending out replacements. You can’t say that about too many other labels.

Classic movie, saw this at the cinema in 1999, good times. The sequel is excellent too and I do love Reunion and like 3 quite a bit. The spin offs vary in quality but the first couple are pretty good.

First can't wait for this, the Blu-ray of the first film is abysmal, like truly horrific. I do love the teen comedy movie genre, just had a week off work and almost all the movies I watched were in this genre, even the bad ones leave you feeling good (looking at you The New Guy).
Secondly after a lot of comments above about Reunion being better then Wedding I went and rewatched it. I saw it once when it come out and I remember really disliking it, I can't remember why but it all just seemed boring and uninteresting. But some 12 years later I was captivated by this film, it's funny, it's sweet and it has a lot of heart. I was left feeling like maybe I could do with another one off these with the original cast I had the same experience with Loser this past week, hated the movie when I rented it when it was first on dvd, it wasn't funny and had no pie fornicating. But now some 23 years later I enjoyed this movie so much, I really was able to identify with the main character so much. Strange how the passage of time can change ones perception of things. |

Might as well do the 4K one at the same time.
As a middle age man at 46 my favourite genre is the teen comedy. Other films seen last week: Superbad Dazed and Confused Boys and Girls Saving Silverman 100 Girls Porkeys Still plenty on my list to go. Also realising I actually quite like Jason Biggs in the nerdy loser guy role. Last edited by Moe UK; 04-09-2024 at 10:33 AM. |
