Oh wow that was one of the faster releases after an announcement from Kino. Stoked to grab this one. One of the few De Palma's I haven't seen

I guess a commentary is better than nothing. The only extra this film has had since the days of DVD was the theatrical trailer.

Just noticed lossless is only listed for the 2.0 audio. That's intriguing.

That's normal for Kino. They'll both be lossless.

Very disappointing they couldn't have done a director's cut with the original ending, but still.

Indeed... Given the lukewarm box office and lack of cult following though, I didn't expect much in terms of extras here.

None of that matters - worse and lesser known films have gotten way more extras. This is just a Kino thing

SF went the extra mile in presenting the rejiggered "director's cut" of Raising Cain on their Blu release. And it's not like locking the original ending to Snake Eyes in a vault forever is gonna do anything for Paramount. They probably spent a good chunk of change on it back in the day, so there's no reason, over a quarter-century later, they need to hide it. It's just a shame, because this was probably our last chance to see it in anything other than fuzzy VHS work tape quality.

I agree it's a shame, especially considering how superior the original ending is. But TBF, with Raising Cain Shout only had to reorder the existing scenes, if they had to unlock deleted material never released before I'm sure it'd be another "we tried" situation.
Still, a commentary with film historians as the only extra is uber disappointing. That equals nothing to me as I couldn't care less about what those people have to say but good for those who enjoy it.

I've heard of this movie before, but somehow never ended up watching it. I might pick it up whenever it goes on some sort of sale because the plot sounds interesting, plus Nick Cage in 4k lol.

If their commentary is anything like the one done by Maitland McDonagh for Kino's DTK 4K, it'll be quite a disappointment. McDonagh was solid for a very surface level understanding of DTK's production and controversies for the general viewer but it had very little new things to gleam from the film, if any at all. I don't really think most of the people buying these De Palma works on 4K won't know about it on just that basic level. I'm more optimistic about Snake Eyes though as its still a pretty undiscussed film in general. It doesn't have that mass reputation around it like DTK it does, so hopefully more room for proper formal analysis of the film itself, the unique place it fits into the De Palma filmography etc.
