As for the local dimming issue reported by WhatHiFi, I watched my 4K disc of Mad Max: Fury Road and I did not notice the issues that they did. Maybe I was not observant enough?

I do know that there have been two firmware updates for the Bravia 9 since WhatHiFi published their concerns. Maybe these updates addressed the matter?

Hello Vilya, I like to hear that you're getting on well! The issue that WhatHiFi reported at that time was due to buggy firmware. I currently use firmware v112.627.030.1 (North America) which was released at the beginning of November and it has been rock solid. I got a calibration recently and love the TV in its current state so it's staying offline now. Unless Sony can give me a very compelling reason I'm probably not going to take another update.

The additional remote which you've spotted is a regional difference. IMO, the A90J remote is still unmatched in terms of build quality and having a premium feeling inside the hand but it does absolutely devour AAA batteries! The 2024 "eco" remote is a more simple affair but most importantly it's still backlit and conveniently accepts a USB-C recharge.

In theory this TV should perform the same for every country, but the software is maintained by different people so there can be regional quirks as well. One more thing I wish Vincent would have touched on in his review, that miniLED displays typically see gains on contrast and bloom suppression as the overall size increases. The backlight is able to divide the image into smaller sections. 85" in particular has nearly double the zones of a 65"--still a far cry from pixel level control but it's not insignificant either. I have the 75" which has ~2000 partitions (8000 miniLED total). Adjust for panel size with viewing distance.

I believe that's covered in this review (skip to 4:12)

I rarely notice this in practice, but it can be observed in certain scenarios like a light colored background that also happens to lack texture ( there's nothing there to distract your eyes!) I still believe that black and white films remain very challenging material for any display to pull off because they have a tendency to lay bare just what's going on with the panel itself --e.g. rgb balance, brightness uniformity, tinting, DSE, jail bar banding etc. Without having to process color we're more free to notice other anomalies.

Thanks for the answer

He talks about a cooler tint due to the local dimming but I don't think it's the same issue here but yeah if you disable the local dimming the issue is gone
